LED question

I saw a couple of LED's while picking up some for box mods and they had three wires instead of two....package said the LED displayed multiple colors. My question is what gets connected to the 3rd wire?

The other circuit's positive. Much the same as the LED in many chargers.

There's also dual color leds that change state depending on the polarity. Run positive to one side and it'll be green, the other and it'll be red.
