LED's am I missing something

I don't quite get why all the PVs seem to have LED's. I can see why you might want a red one with an analog look alike, but other than making them look more like an analog (or less with blue/purple etc) do they actually serve any kind of purpose? I know a friend of mine got the m401 & has a red LED for when he's outside vaping & doesn't want to answer a million questions & a blue one for when he's places where smoking is forbidden. Wouldn't it be simpler to just do away with them altogether?

They do make batteries without LEDs in them if you look for them.

They seemed very cool to me at first- I liked the glowing red end- reminded me of smoking. The Widow sells 510 bats with no LED.

Now I'm going trying to figure out if I want to shove an LED into my mod. I'm thinking a huge Red LED would be awesome at the end. It is kinda dumb though.. Waste power. Still I'm gonna do it.

I'm just glad it indicates time to recharge the battery by flashing.

It would be just too strange if it beeped instead.

Well about led's..some people find that led's (for manual batteries especially) are helpful to know that the battery is working. I can puff until the led starts to flash and then I know it's time to recharge. For automatic batteries the led may flash to alert you of the cut off time. Don't want to keep dragging on something that's not giving vapor.

Valkerie is right on. When the LED flashes, it means time to recharge. Works great for me.

LED just drains power from the battery... the Widow has no LED 510's. Also the Dura C doesn't have an LED. There may be more vendors that carry them - cignot, it seems.

Sounds like there are two schools of thought on the LED represented in this thread: One is that they draw power from the battery and/or are unnecessary, the other is they are a necessary indicator of battery life/operation. I like novelty of them. Although a battery/cooldown indicator seems to be the practical functionality of them, I tend to be more of the "hey, look at my cool toy" type of personality, and thus will always have an LED on the end of my PV =)
Sucks that I got a 901 that was advertised as having an Icy Blue LED and got stuck with the "dirty" red LED, but this is only my first e-cig. Going top order another one right now!

I love the fact that my 901 has an led...and it is blue. It gives me all kind of handy information like when I draw too long, when my battery is dead, and when it is going into self cleaning mode. I would like to have a greed led though.

My DSE103 batts have the Green, bot only as an indicator. Glows orange when in use, and flashes green when dead or cut off point.

I love my CALM (Cisco Advanced Laser Mod) which has no LED. If you can't tell when your battery is getting low, you haven't been vaping very long. Whether it's my M401, M402, 510, JS or CALM - I know b4 it goes dead that it's time to recharge.

I got black 510 batteries with green LEDs from CigNot.

And purple ones with purple LEDs from E-Smokey Treats.

There are different colors of LEDs out there--you just have to hunt for them.

From what I recall of my younger life, LED's take very little power to light up. Heating an element up to ? degrees takes a lot. Id be surprised if during the entire use of one charge, that no LED would save more than 1 puff worth of energy.... but then again, I could be wrong.

I really like the led's on my pv's b/c it will tell me if the battery is dead or the atomizer is busted up...just IMO though..
