Building with 28 GA kanthal. 6 wraps on a 7/64 inch (2.8MM) drill bit. Coil calculator at steam engine says about 6 wraps should get me to 1.2 ohms. I have 3 devices (itaste MVP, VTR and another stick itaste device). Only the MVP can read the ohm ratings the others don't even register (NON). I tested it with a eleaf nano ipower and it read 0.5 ohms (same as the MVP).

Why the discrepancy? It's supposed to be 1.2 ohms but it reads as 0.5 ohms.

Thanks

Did you dry burn the coil before wicking it and testing it? Kanthal is conductive and compressed coils will short together until heated, which causes annealing of the wire. Annealing forms a silica coating that insulates coils that touch each other.

Pull the wick out and dry fire it until it glows for a couple of seconds to anneal the wire, then re-wick it and it should be in the range you are looking for.

If your coil is spaced and not compressed that won't help. Annealing is only useful with compressed coils.

I always use temp mode so I'm always using SS and nickel and run into the same thing. I burn the coils to form an oxide that hopefully insulates the individual wraps. Kanthal
has an aluminum oxide that insulates, if you break through it you short out a turn or ground at a different point. I'd agree with the above post. There is also the spaced coil.

Thanks for the replies.

I can't dry burn it since (except one the vtr), none of my devices won't even register the atomizer. Though on a sub ohm tank it does register and fire just fine. Makes me wonder what's wrong with the ohm/coil calculation. I have tried building this coil 3 times.

Do you have a center pin contact issue? The tank may not be making a solid connection with the mod's center pin contact.

I've had this issue with my Lemo 2 after dropping it one too many times. I found the answer on a thread somewhere here. Then center pin inside the AFC has somehow become loose and is not making contact.

You have to remove the air flow control and clamp on it with pliers (maybe stick some soft tape on each side of the pliers first). Go around the whole piece, clamp, move around, clamp again....
