I been getting asthma lately and the ecig seems to be either causing it or irritating my lungs.. either way i enjoy vaping a lot,, been doing so full time for over a year and have't touched a cigarette.. Im scared i might have to quit vaping.. I was wondering if you guys had any tips on the maybe safest wicking materials to use.. im not sure what it is exactly, but the vapor i notice is harsh.. I use 18mg nicotine or sometimes 15.. I think i have to go down to 12.. Cartos seemed a lot smoother.. this rba seems more irritating.. even if i blow the vapor through my nose and not inhale it feels like my nose is on fire.. i don't believe its from dry hits.. Just the nature of the rba seems more harsh then a carto.. maybe because the carto filters itself somewhat through the way the coil is wrapped and surrounded..

regards

So you don't think it is the weather on Mars this year? (your info)

This year has been then worst in many years in the north east. Summer never really kicked in and the wild plants as well as all manor of Bug have been through the roof.

In RDA/EBA devices you have many wick selections to test out.
One may be just what you are looking for.
Silica, hemp, cotton, rayon or a stainless Mesh Genny style tank.

Have you considered the specific flavors you are vaping. You may really like something that just doesn't agree with your condition.

May want to check your build. When I started out rebuilding I would get an irritating harsh burning vape and on inspection of the coils when fired one of the legs would be glowing or there would be a part on the coil where there wasn't good contact between wick & wire and that would glow. The harshness was burning metal. You didn't mention your build, what you were using for wick, etc. This may be something to look into before changing liquids.

What ohm are you building to? What material are you wicking with?

Drop your nic to 6 or less on a RDA...anything higher is insane.

Build your coils to a higher ohm...0.5ohm or higher gives a good, cool vape. Rayon is doesn't burn like cotton does when you hit it dry. 45 foot of cellucotton can be had on Amazon for around $12...and it's much better than cotton.

As many have mentioned, dropping your nic concentration will likely help a lot.

Are there particular flavors that are worse than others? I had a cinnamon flavor I loved, but it started giving me a nagging little cough and a sore throat after using it as my all day flavor for a week or so.

Another thing you could try would be changing the pg/vg ratio of the liquid you're using, more vg=less throat hit and maybe less irritation? I've noticed since I recently switched to an RBA (RSST) that the liquid I used before (50/50 6mg) now seems to have a dramatically greater throat hit than it did with cartomizers.

I agree that 6mg is enough even for an efficient RBA (single coil). I dropped from 11mg to 5.5 and 6mg when I started using the Kayfun 3.1. Even 6mg is enough to satisfy me and sometimes give me a little nic buzz if I crank it to 9 or 10 watts and vape often.

My transition from 24mg to 18mg to 11mg on ordinary Kanger Aerotech and Aspire Naultilus coils was easy. I started at 11mg on the Kayfun and immediately noticed the slight nic OD at 11mg. That made 6mg an easy switch.

What was your timeframe for stepping down nic levels from 24 on down? Was this years, months?

Thx!

RBAs can be as smooth or irritating as we want them to be. It's all in the design of the rba, build, nic, wick, power and airflow ratio, all have to be in balance to get the vape you're looking for. Without knowing more about your setup I would recommend first dropping your nice as others have suggested. RBAs go through more juice so you're getting more nic per hit. I would drop it in half for starters so if you are currently at 15-19 drop to the 6-9 range and go from there, might even have to drop it a little more.

Most likely improvements to smooth things out can be found in your build also but you'd need to post more information about the device, coil, wick, ohm and what power range you're using, with pics if possible.

I've also been told that the position of the coil in relation to airflow is key when trying to get a less harsh vape.
Yes the harshness can be from a variety of things as many have mentioned but yes, if your using a dripper and have the coils not positioned correctly, you can get some serious harshness

its definitly the nic level .i cant even imagine having a satisfying vape at 18 on an rda lol

Not for me, I vape at 18mg all day with my RDA's.

@Paladinx, I would recommend you go back to cartos. You said they didn't bother you in the past and it's worth giving up a little flavor if it helps you to continue to vape and to not go back to analogs. Maybe even a KFL, it's not nearly as harsh as an RDA. I use KGD Japanese cotton for wicking, which I like a lot but my guess is that the wicking material isn't the problem.
