hmmm a guitar case--they just couldn't resist
Enid- is David Bowie deaf? We had an all white kitty who was deaf. The vet said that 80% of all white females are deaf and even higher if their eyes don't match! About 50% for males.
I don't have great pictures because these were taken a while ago with a web cam...

That is Whiskers. When I was 9.. My parents had split up, my mom moved to Oregon and my dad and I were living in a tiiiiiny apartment. We adopted a cat which I named Tigger. I think my mom got him for me, but she had just found him so he was pretty feral, he ended up running away.
When she came back from Oregon she knocked on the door with 2 kittens. A white & black one, and a tabby. In the eyes of a little girl who has been knocked around and wronged and lost a beloved pet, those kittens meant the world to me. My dad hated them. I named the tabby "Whiskers" after a scene in Toy Story, where T-Rex yells out the window, "WHISKERS!! GET OUT OF THERE. You're interfering with a search and rescue!!" .. And the white & black cat I named Frisky.
Fast forward a few years.. My dad and I are living with his new boyfriend Dan, and Frisky never learned how to use a litter box. My dad always said "Once a dirty cat, always a dirty cat." So we got rid of him and kept Whiskers. Whiskers must have known why Frisky got the boot, and took it as a warning. Because from that day on, he never defecated nor urinated anywhere but the litter box.
Whiskers stuck with my dad and I, and became the most precious part of my childhood. He wasn't just any cat, he was my cat, and he was the sweetest on the planet. They say that cats are preferred over dogs because they are "loners" and generally require less attention.. That was not true with my cat. There are no words to describe how absolutely love starved he always seemed to be. He could sit in my lap for hours purring away as I scratched his ears. He was a great companion and a wonderful listener.
I imagine Whiskers is about 13 - 14 years old now, and I no longer have him. I went and fell in love with my husband (a picture of which you can view in the 'show me your dogs' thread) who happens to have a very serious allergy to most animals... But mostly cats. I had to give Whiskers away when he moved in, to a good friend who I trust. I hear that he is still fat and happy and healthy, they contacted me for his shot records not too long ago, so I know he's being taken care of. I miss my cat more than I can say. He was given to me by my mom, who lies in heaven now.. and lately I've really been missing the company of that wonderful animal she gave me so many years ago.
I think sometimes though.. It's better this way. I could not have watched him fade from this life.
That is the sweetest thing...What a special dog.Sheila saved Tiny's life 3 years ago. He was a runt and wasn't thriving at all. She's never had pups and was only 6 months old herself when she started nursing him. Now, Tiny still nurses occasionally (he's almost as big as Sheila), and she'll start making milk for him.

(about a year ago I learned that chicken feed (specifically NON-MEDICATED broiler crumbles) is an excellent cat litter. It clumps, and really controls odor better than any litter I've ever used. I get fifty pound bags for around $12, and I've actually changed the plastic box liner, and kept the same "litter" in the box. Thankfully Lily doesn't try to eat those bags. LOL) The best part is I can dump the used litter in the woods behind my house, since it's just corn. Each trash bag we bring to the dump is $2.75, so not having to throw away all the used litter is a nice added benefit.)
Brewlady, is this flushable? I'm using wheat litter now, and it is safe and flushable, but I have to completely change the litter out every 3 weeks or it gets pretty strong. I'd love to find something that flushes and registers lower on the smell-o-meter.
