My Friend started a petition to the government of Cyprus to stop poisoning the homeless animals there. She tries to feed the feral cats but is told by the government to STOP! Please, please sign this petition and ask everyone you know to also sign it.

Cry Out for the Cats of Cyprus!

"Cats and dogs live on the streets of Cyprus, just like in most countries of the World. Unfortunately most common way to control the population is to poison them. Poisoning and killing a cat is illegal, but the police do nothing if people goes for help.
The Government do not or give just very little money for Animal Shelters, they hardly can feed their animals, they beg for donation and they can not take more animals!
People from the Government try to stop animal lovers, who feed the cats or dogs. They tell: "we do not want to see them here"!
We beg you: if you do not want to see them on the street do something! Do something humane! Do not let the cats and dogs die on the street with no help! Do not poison them! Do not let people to poison them!!!"... MORE

Thank you so much Running Wolf!! I talk with this gal daily and the horrific treatment of animals in Cyprus must get national attention! I don't understand why the laws there are not enforced since they are part of the UK. The government is the worst offender poisoning the animals and setting an example that it's okay to cause them harm. I was hoping it would get more attention here on ECF but I guess everyone is too busy with the holidays.

I figured getting it on the APL's page would get it some more exposure.

I donate my time to the animal shelter. Give blood and am listed as a bone marrow donor. Only 'charities' I go for becuase I know what I donate will be used by the intended recipients and not some administrator.

I know a lot of feral cat places out here in Ohio are into live capture, alter, and release. It helps but would help more if people stop dumping animals .

Maybe tell your friend to try approaching the problem from another angle. Get the word out, yeah, you have to. hate to resort to fear mongering but maybe have some of that play into it. When it rains the poisons will wash away into gardens and people's yards. Kids toys will have a coat of poison on them, the veggies in your garden. Fear mongering? A little bit but also true. Any hungry animal that finds it's way to a free meal (laced with poison) will eat it, even endangered or rare species.

Sorry animal stuff gets my goat. It's also people's house pets that can get poisoned. How do you explain to a little kid that the pet has died?

Many years ago I founded a 501(c)3 animal rescue so I know what you mean about animal issues getting to you! I can't help animals now because of my living situation and that is really hard. Thanks for the idea, I relayed the message to her.
