So I am a long time atty user. I really don't imagine that changing too much.
I also have experience with cartos, which also serve a purpose in my routine. What I tried once a long time ago was a tank system that was pure fail. Haven't gone back to it, but I'm curious again. Its a good idea, but the execution as I remember kinda sucked.
So some questions
1. how are they now? has wicking improved?
2. Flavor. Has the flavor improved as well, I remember being totally underwhelmed by them
3.LR performance. I use LR atties and love them. Do the LR tanks work as well as cartos, etc?
4.popularity? have alot of people switched over? Thi is important as it may decide whether long term availability will be there.
5. Any best system? is there any system out there which is exceptional? Like Bllog carts, or Ego batts, are there any standard bearers out there that got it right?

I'm guessing you tried the MAP tank that uses a CE2 carto since you mentioned poor wicking. I have 3 of those and I've mastered the CE2 problems but I still needed to try the next-gen tanks.

The new generation of tanks use the polyfilled cartos. They are available for the longer dual coils and the regular sized Boge cartos. These cartos don't have the wicking problem associated with the CE2's. Flavor is the same as just using the carto without a tank. LR carto's in tanks are very close to a LR atty. Some people say the dual coil cartos leak in a tank and they prefer the Boge cartos. I haven't experienced any leaking with my dual coils but I do prefer the Boge cartos for other reasons.

As far as a best system, that's a matter of preference. I went with a stainless steel version of these bigdaddyvapor.com because they looked good and were the least expensive. I'm very happy with it. They come with the carto, a drip tip and a syringe. I added another tube (to cut down for standard size cartos) and another drip tip and it came out to the same price as the Liquinator alone. These have to be the best deal out there right now.

I always hated carto's til..... I got a Jonboy tank with a Boge 2.0 carto:) It's like dripping without the muss and fuss:vapor: I've since sold off most of my atty stash. I can go a couple of days without refilling and the last vape is as good as the 1st:2cool: IMHO Plus, they're gorgeous:)

1. how are they now? has wicking improved? if you're referring to the ce2 tanks, then yes, wicking has improved dramatically. if you mean tank systems (like ego-t), then not much has changed, though i've had good success with those as well.
2. Flavor. Has the flavor improved as well, I remember being totally underwhelmed by them again, with the ce2 tanks, improved wicking with the ce2, so flavor is better.
3.LR performance. I use LR atties and love them. Do the LR tanks work as well as cartos, etc? check out the carto tanks (dct, liquinator, etc). they take whatever resistance carto you want. if you're referring to the ego-t type tanks, then imo no, they don't work as well as a carto does.
4.popularity? have alot of people switched over? Thi is important as it may decide whether long term availability will be there.i don't have any numbers, but the tanks mentioned above (dct, liquinator, etc.) seem very popular.
5. Any best system? is there any system out there which is exceptional? Like Bllog carts, or Ego batts, are there any standard bearers out there that got it right? best? dunno. for me, the ss dct (stainless steel dual carto tank) is pure performance. it is my primary tank, along with the iatty. if i'm not using one of those two, i'm dripping.

there are quite a few of the carto tanks available other than the ones in this post. you may also want to look at the wares of gotvapes, such as this character which i've used with moderate success.
