Wow your post was excellent. I'm glad you took the bull by the horns and decided to try whatever it took to quit. Most of us here never thought we'd be able to quit, I know I didn't. Vaping has made a huge difference in my life, I'm even drinking more water since starting so I've managed 2 good habits outta 1 really bad one. Keep us up-to-date on you progress :) and in the meantime happy vaping! :vapor:

Welcome and congrats. Vape allowed me not to smoke without giving up anything. Glad you found us, The journey has begun..
Cold turkey should be eaten and not smoked, but smoked cold turkey is quite tasty too especially with a dab of hot mustard.

Hang on, wasn't "the letter in my backpack" a made for tv movie back in the 70's??, umm never mind, it was in a bottle, different addiction lmao.

Good luck

I've been lurking here for about a month now. All I can say is that membership to this forum should required in any "smoking cessation" program. I have been a smoker for 25 years and a "vaper" for 2+ months. I have attempted to quit more times than I can recall over the course of those 25 years and have tried everything from the standards (patch, gum, cold turkey) to various clinical trials of drugs and treatments. To be fair, I never wanted to quit. I enjoyed smoking too much. My job made it even more problematic in that many of my peers smoked. Most of the time, when I needed to consult with them, I knew where to find them (outside having a smoke). I even accepted a job overseas in Saudi Arabia for a year with hopes that a change of that magnitude would give me the kick I needed. It turned out that cigarettes were $.75 a pack and everyone smoked there! Major fail. 2 years ago I was digging around in my backpack which I lug to work every day and I find an envelope. In the envelope is a handwritten note from my wife. I will not post the note here but, suffice to say, every puff I took after reading it was agony. She implored me to quit. I decided that I would do whatever it took to stop smoking. I took stock of everything I had tried to date to stop. Granted, the note should have been enough but, you long time smokers know that it takes hard, cold reality and more than a note to give up smoking cold turkey. I had heard about e-cigs at that time but had not done any real research. I immediately placed an order for a Frii e-cigarette starter kit in hopes that this would do the trick. All I can recall is that it was trying to suck a mint chocolate chip milkshake through a straw that was clogged with chocolate chips! That lasted a week and I want right back to cigarettes. Fast forward 2 years and many guilty puffs later. I discovered this forum and decided to give it another go. I ordered a Joyetech eMode and have been smoke free since 12/7/2013. I still have the very battered and dog-eared letter in my backpack. If I am still smoke-free by 12/7/14 I plan on taking my wife out somewhere nice for dinner and then, together, putting that letter through the shredder! Thanks ECF for getting me started!

You are lying. You quit to save money. "If you stop for a year" you will take your wife out to eat? Criminy. You could take her out once a week with the money you are saving. I can only conclude that you don't like to go out to eat. Because ... wait for it ... here it comes ... you can't smoke. You can't get your "fix" after you eat.

And your taste buds have been dead for 25 years. So restaurant food perpared by professional chef's have no meaning to you. KFC is Ok. Taco Bell is not that bad.

Personally, I think you should frame the letter (tattered as it is) to encourage the rest of the family to never start with cigs.

You should take your wife out to eat at least monthly because as your taste buds improve, you want her to be cooking some of the dishes she recently had out (with her normal taste buds) so you will enjoy them (those replicated meals) in the future.

If you are wondering if she is a keeper, I think she is.

I just hope you don't get fat.

QUOTE]

I was getting ready to argue with you about that. Smoked turkey is gooder. Hot or cold.

And I would agree more with the hot mustard statement if you also said previously bacon. And if you had mentioned home grown tomato's with a little salt and pepper on that same sandwich, we would have been on the same page.

I guess my taste buds are coming back.

As for cold turkey, it is the best way to go. If you only kill your wife and a neighbor and your favorite kid because he wouldn't shut up when you really needed a cigarette, that is a small price to pay. They got lawyers for that. It will cost you some money. At least you won't be a smoker. The worst of the worst.

Or you can vape and not kill anyone. And save money (supposedly).

Hear hear! I couldn't agree more. Thank you for posting this. I was in a somewhat similar situation with regard to smoking. As recently as a month ago, I didn't believe I would ever quit for good. Lurking in the forums changed my mind and helped me take the plunge, acquire a good setup (important!) and start vaping. Congrats on the two months! The year should go quickly, they always do. Make sure that dinner is a 5-star!
