Levels of nicotine

I have. Almost. I'm not entirely off of Nicotine, but I started at 32mg and worked down to 6mg, which I mix with with 0mg. Lately, I've started to alternate between 0mg store-bought e-liquid and my own formulations, which I mix to 2mgs. I like to have one of each going, that way I can vape like crazy if I'm in the mood to, and feed the nicotine demon at odd intervals.

...now if only I knew what to do with these high-test pre-filled carts...

Most people don't start at the highest level, I think most start at 18mg or 24mg. I started at 16-18mg and just dropped to 12mg. Since I do not vape constantly it was easy for me to vape extra to smooth over the transition. I hope to get to 0. The big loss is the TH - the main TH in ejuice is from the nicotine in ejuice. As you lower the nicotine you lower the TH. So I have to find flavors that still have enough throat sensation - it's still less than before but I like to feel something. There are also additives you can use like QHit or pepper juice or PGA (pure grain alcohol) to add throat sensation.

I'm wondering about people who claim to smoke 4-5 ml daily in one thread and then mention that they use 24mg in another. Am I entirely mistaken in thinking that this means that they are consuming the equivalent of four packs or more per day? Once I did the math, on the assumption that analog cigs are about 1mg nicotine each, I rapidly lowered my my intake (mgs/ml, not puffs) and am thinking that I'm consuming the same thing as a half-pack of analogs.

There really isn't a direct correlation between the nicotine you get from smoking and the nicotine you get from vaping. There are half a pack per day smokers who need 24mg to stay of the cigarettes and pack and a half per day smokers who can't vape anything above 18mg. I'm a chain vaper and uses 18mg and sometimes I'll use 24mg on those rare occasions when I'm thinking about cigarettes.

The general rule is to use the nicotine level that keeps you satisfied and curbs the cravings. I think trying to figure out this level solely based on what you smoked and how much is folly and makes vaping more stressful than it should be. 3-5mls per day is about the average that most of us use, no matter which nicotine level we're vaping.

I hear you, WOH, I was just wondering. For me personally, I think that I'm more hooked on the device at this point than I am on nicotine.

...I certainly never put nearly as much thought into being a smoker as I put into vaping, it's an obsession unto itself.

Here's the math I did earlier today regarding nicotine consumption:

The average cigarette has 1-3 mg of nic inhaled as smoke (less than the amount in the tobacco).
If I smoked a pack of smokes a day that's 60 mg's per day (yes, assuming the highest level)
but now I vape 3ml of 24mg juice so I'm inhaling 72mg per day of nicotine.

BUT: we don't know how much nicotine we actually absorb when we vape. I think the highest percentage I've seen is 40%.

So assuming I'm only absorbing 40% of the nicotine I'm inhaling (the highest amount, just to be fair) then I'm only getting 43mg per day - less than I did when I smoked.

I was also reading on wikipedia that nicotine is not as addictive as once thought, but because of the way that cigarette companies process the tobacco (read: add 4000+ other chemicals to it) that cigarettes are the addictive thing way more than the nicotine itself.
Nicotine - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
quote:
"Technically, nicotine is not significantly addictive, as nicotine administered alone does not produce significant reinforcing properties.[41] However, only after coadministration with an MAOI, such as those found in tobacco, nicotine produces significant behavioral sensitization, a measure of addiction potential. This is similar in effect to amphetamine.[42]"

I wish I could tell you. I'm a dental hygienist and should research this further. I know the gum is 4 mg. The strength of nicotine on the site where I purchase my carts is a range from 0 to 36 mg. I would say per cart. A cartridge lasts me a couple days so I'm not sure what I'm getting each time I puff. Its all very new to me and I have so many questions. Especially because there are so many brands and lots of info I still need to learn.

If you know the size of your cartridge it would help, but most carts are about 0.5 ml. So if that's the case, and your carts are 24mg, you'd be getting 12mg per cart (assuming you can use all the juice in a cart - which I never could since they don't wick very well)
