E-Cigarettes pose dilemmas for regulators, tobacco control advocates - The Globe and Mail

"Health Canada says e-cigarettes containing nicotine are not legal in this country."
They are not illegal either, but nicotine is subject to regulation in respect to controlled substances.

Long story short, nicotine products over a certain limit may not be imported and Canada Customs will not let them through.

It is however not against the law to be in possession of e-liquid containing nicotine.

From the article: Canadian border authorities block entry of these products when shipments are spotted.
"When spotted" ... and that's another story altogether. No worries.

From the article: But the popularity of the products, famously used by celebrities such as Johnny Depp and Leonardo DiCaprio and pitched by actor Stephen Dorff, seems to be growing unabated.

HC and their front-end association mouthpieces & media parrots might as well talk to walls.

The article actually gives enough info to make someone curious and try. Other than that just the regular diet of over-the-top safety drama.

Not the worst article I've seen on the topic. I have to wonder though how Mr. Wigand is in a position to talk about e-cigs? He obviously doesn't know the current versions were invented by a scientist in China wishing to find a lower-harm alternative for himself and others. He, like many ANTZ, mistakenly assume BT introduced e-cigs. (Note, though, that I do appreciate what Mr. Wigand went through to "blow the whistle" on the industry, if there is a modicum of truth to the movie based on his actions).

And the whole "gateway" thing? Please! It would be a rare person to be vaping on some yummy bubble-gum (or whatever flavor) liquid, then try a combustible cigarette and think "Wow! This is awesome! Forget e-cigs, I'm switching to these!". Just don't see that being a big issue.
