I'm asking because I was looking at the specs of the Tenergy LiFePO4 3.0V rechargeable CR123A batteries, and it listed this:

"Maximum discharging rate:< 550 mA"
Tenergy LiFePO4 RCR123A 3.0V 750mAh Rechargeable Battery (as low as) $2.79 ea!

Normally, protected Li-ion batteries can handle up to 4A draw (at least from what I've seen in listed specs), however with these the maximum rate is much lower. Wouldn't using these in mods cause stress on the batteries when they're designed to handle much lower draw than what atomizers normally require?

I don't think so, even a Joye atty is pushing it.

Where did you see these Li-ion specs?
Deal Extreme, although their listed capacities are usually wrong but you'd at least hope their protection ratings were accurate.

Example, some 10440's I was looking at:
DealExtreme: $5.08 TrustFire Protected 10440 "600mAh" 3.7V Rechargeable Li-Ion Batteries (2-Pack)

Was I reading it wrong? I thought over current protection meant that it could handle up to 4A draw before it cuts out.

There was a thread somewhere where LifePo4's did blow up... I can't remember what device they were used in though... Maybe a GG or a BB...

Also, there was another thread where some Chinese makers were actually selling bogus LifePo4's... They were basically unprotected CR2's wrapped and labeled as LifePo4....

I would not trust any LifePo4 that is not from a very trusted source...

lol, right.. gotcha. so i wonder what it's really capable of then before it's kaput.

in any case, no ones reporting anything happening with the LiFePO4 batteries, so i take it they're ok to use with our devices? how about with 510 attys?
Let's look at what was posted.

"Maximum discharging rate:< 550 mA"

What's the current/amp draw of a Joye atty at 6V? 2700mA.

ok....

seems like there's two sides here, as usual. one side says hey they're fine the other says umm no they're not.

i'm thinking i'm going to stick with protected li-ion batteries for now. even if 4A is an exaggeration, it's still gotta be better than 550mah with no cut off protection.

Those are the batteries that shipped with my Prodigy v2 full kit. I've never let them fully discharge, probably just over paranoid. No problems I can report vaping on a 510 atty. They do not seem to even get lukewarm. The charger is the one referenced in the link to DealExtreme on your initial post... the $16 one with a set of batteries.

I've been using those Tenergy LiFePO4's for about 3 months now and mine have never even got warm. I've had zero problems so far. Also, the LiFePO batts that supposedly caused the problem were the Excellerator CR2's, not these. Are we starting to over-analyze here? There has not been one actual problem reported on these and they work great. Just saying ....

okay, i know nothing about batteries, but i know that i dont want my face blown up. I have a silver bullet, and am using the regular 3.7v 18650. i really want to vape at 5 or 6volts, but am paranoid about getting the right batteries, what would you all recommend?????
If you are a 510 user keep your battery and get one of Nhaler's 1.5Ω 510 atties. No fuss way to get 9+ watts of vaping power.
