the 901 does not hold to much e-liquid in the cartridges---that is why I went to dripping and got rid of the cartridges all together. The issue you are having is not enough e-liquid. IMO--this dripping killing atomizers is an old myth and so long as you are careful not to get eliquid in that battery, you are good to go. Cartridges are nothing but a pain. Two drops in a 901 on the bridge of the atomizer and you are good to go--Sun

i will try both of your advices thank you very much. only problem with dripping i think is having to do it too often dont you think? a cart is like one refill a day

A--no matter which method you employ--you are either going to be filling those carts all day or dripping---A cart is good for only a few cigs at most.

It could be that youre puffing too fast for the liquid to wick and it could also be that your stuffing in your cart is wearing out. After a bit of use, the stuffing gets to where it doesnt wick very well. Both situations will cause that funky burnt taste. And, 901s also have a tendency to simply not wick well. You can take a cart that is supposedly dead and squeeze quite a bit of liquid out of the stuffing. When I'm using carts, I use that funky burnt taste as a signal for when I need to top off my cart. Since it's happening to you after around 10 puffs, I'd say the stuffing is probably wearing out.

All that being said, I tend to do like Sun and simply direct drip. When I'm direct dripping I dont bother to use a mouthpiece, that way I can more easily add more liquid when needed. You do have to be very careful about it, though, because yuou can easily kill a battery by dripping (the excess liquid will run through atomizer and go into battery and clog the switch inside). Good rule of thumb, from my experience, is to never drip more than two drops. And, that's only when youre absolutely sure it needs it and that the loss in vapor production isnt because of battery going dead (or even being weak) and that it isnt because of battery coming slightly unscrewed from atomizer.

Since the 901 doesn't get all the juice from the cart, it's not really one refill a day... you'll need to be topping off anyway. When you fill with the syringe, are you putting enough in to start with? A fresh cart should take around .5ml. Try both Sun's idea and BreakfastChef's way, and also bear in mind what MissVapor says. If you let the atty get too dry because you're not topping off, you'll need more than 1 or 2 drops.

If I'm in one place for a long time, i.e. at work, I use a syringe throughout the day rather than top off. It soaks into the filling well, and lasts longer than topping off.

I still use a cartridge, but you really do need to keep them very moist. I go through 2-3 ml of liquid a day (I tend to chain vape the same way I used to chain smoke though, so you may get away with using less). I also drip an occasional couple of drops on my atomizer if I start getting any "off" taste while my carts still look moist.

Another thing you might want to do is check for filler fibers stuck in your atomizer. I have switched to the pyramid tea bag rolls as filler so I don't have that problem anymore (thankfully), but burning fibers taste horrible!

Also, you can take a look at your cart opening and see if it looks like it is melting at all. The majority of my carts don't have this problem, but a couple must have been made a lil small or warped, and the straight edge seems to sit a bit close to the atomizer bridge. For the ones that looked like they may have been taking too much heat from the bridge, I just shaved a thin amount of plastic from the inside of the straight edge of the cart opening. I probably could have just tossed them since they are so inexpensive, but I'm cheap :p

Worst case scenario, you could just have an atty that runs hotter or "burnier" (pretty sure that's not a real word, lol) than most. I have a couple of atomizers that work perfectly all the time, and a couple that are thirsty beasts and need to be dripped on a lot more to taste right. You can try a different atty to see if it helps.

Good luck, I hope you get it worked out :)
