@aldenf Found this in comments from Martyn's video:

does it only vape at a constant 60 watts? is that why there's no display? that confused me.

+Julie Dickinson It's essentially a regulated mech. It will deliver the power required based on the resistance of your build

That statement is nonsensical.

Well if you watch the video, he was saying that it was 'like a mech' in that there's no screen and no adjustments, 'just push the button', but 'regulated' only in the sense of what ohms your coils are.

In another video (I watched a few :- ) someone had the spec sheets from Kangertech, (which he posts on facebook) where the real 'max' is 75W and the real 'ohm' basement limit is 1.5Ω but in the manual it is 60W and 2.2Ω for other (legal/safety?) reasons, I'm guessing.

So it isn't "mod adjusted regulated" where you can vary voltage - which is really what you're doing when you change "wattage" - but you can change wattage with different coil builds. So it acts like a mech - one button push, but one can still 'regulate' the wattage with different ohms in coil builds.

But yeah, with what devices we have seen so far, it looks like an oxymoron :- )

Agreed...

At 2:53 into the video, Martyn shows the spec page from the user's manual. Voltage output is listed as "3.7V". This suggests a regulated 3.7V output. This ain't such a bad thing if correct. With this knowledge, we can at least build to our preference. I'm just not sure I'm wanting a "regulated mech".

At this stage in the industry, I can't imagine any excuse not to be up front and thorough with the specs. I can't imagine why any decent reviewer wouldn't have the same questions and insist on getting the answers from Kanger before releasing a review. Buying hardware is still a lot harder than it needs to be.

If it's delivering 60 watts on a .2 Ohm coil, it's pushing roughly 3.5 volts. If it's pushing 3.7 volts, the wattage on a .2 Ohm coil is closer to 70.

There are quite a few of these "regulated mechs" on the market, now. The iJust 2, the eGo ONE line... the mod dumps voltage to the coil like a mech, but with the protections (rev. battery, short/build too low, etc.) of a regulated device.

I agree generally. For a beginner, someone who likes squonkers or for someone who doesn't mind making coils for lower wattage use, and we'll likely see pricing as low as $20-25.

Fixed voltage regulated non-variable PVs are nothing new. The original Joye 510 small cig-like sticks and original Joye eGos are regulated, fixed voltage devices. They are nothing "like a mech". Why would anyone classify a device as a "regulated mech" when there never was any such thing. Just because a device is not a variable output does not make it "like a mech". Sheesh.

Thanks, VT. SO on target!

And the (kind of cool little) EVODs are regulated now too.

People that say "regulated mech" should be forced to pay a shop $20 for a coil.

Shawn will be thrilled... ;-)

And that cute guy in Kali. [emoji23]
Note the quotation marks surrounding the words you've so happily bashed. It almost like I knew...

Hmmm... let's see.

In one hand, I have a battery that puts voltage to an atomizer. As the battery drains, the amount of voltage sent to the atomizer drops (duh).

In the other hand, I have a battery that puts voltage to an atomizer. As the battery drains, the amount of voltage sent to the atomizer drops (duh).

The two descriptions sound an awful lot like one another, no?

The difference between the two hands is a wee bit of circuitry that can prevent things from going boom.

I do understand and know the difference. We could even argue semantics and wordings and phrasings, but, if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck...

Again, note the quotation marks...

And, I no longer work at the vape shop... I hated building coils for pretentious brats...

Sheesh!

At twenty bucks a pop? Are they hiring to refill your position?

Who BETTER to take money from (is my initial thought)?

Psssttt... So you know, Shawn, it was never a bash at you. It was a bash at the guy (Martyn Parker6) that described that device in that video.

Sheet. I DO hope that was VERY clear. But if not, si!!!!
