A burnt hit every other month? I do believe I've had far less than one per year over the last 6 years.

I DID encounter one this week tho. Somehow, mismanaged finger presses inadvertently switched my settings from power to the TC setting. I took a hit and almost fell over. Y U C K!! (and then some!!) Obviously, the wick is toast, as is the FULL tank of liquid I had just poured.

<insert BUMMER icon here>

Evidently that little switch to TC caused my wattage to jump to 75 (from my normal 9ish).

So, no. Nope nope nope. No TC fer me.
One of the reasons I like the KF5 so much is that I can get to the coil w/o losing any juice.

Try setting your TP setting to 10w so next time you accidentally switch to TP, you won't vape at 75w.

I didn't have a problem with dry hits on kanthal and wattage. As long as the wick is good and you keep the watt low enough, shouldn't have any really. Unless you let the tank run empty.

I have come around to liking TC better as it seems more consistent on each draw and if the tank runs on empty, it still doesn't burn the wick, just no vapor or very little.

LOL! I don't even know how I GOT to TC, much less how to get back there. Nor do I know the settings, but your idea is a VERY good one for me (and others who might get lost and find themselves in TC-ville).

I might've been exaggerating with the once a week but it was usually when I was spacing out and forgot to fill the tank or when I get a hot leg on a coil. There were times where I went weeks or months w/o a burnt hit but it happens. My usual kanthal build was 1.2-1.5Ω and 10-15w so hardly a cloud chaser or high wattage vaper. The DNA200 and DNA250 mods I have were more for efficiency than power. I don't think I ever vaped more than 40w ever. I tried a build to vape 75-100w but it was no better than a 20w TP vape.

Same can happen with TP but much less often than with kanthal.

I actually was wondering earlier if it was because both Kat and I are using coils that today's average vaper would laugh hysterically at. Basic oldest school stuff. Opposing legs (most), 1.0-1.5 ohms, contact (most), blah-blah-blah.

No Claptons, Becks, Pages, or Knopflers in sight. More like young Bobby Dylan, before he went 'letric. ;)

I've no idea, but I'm glad. I'd throw the thing against a wall if it happened too often.

I have been watching the ol' SMOK AL85 Alien Baby since it first appeared...(? 1 year ago)...primarily because of its "firing trigger"...[LOVE my Wismec Presa's]...

But...I have way more Mods than I "need"...(and I no longer have the Dooming deadline to use as an "excuse" for buying stuff that I don't need)...

However...when I ran across it for $24.95 with FREE shipping...I just HAD to score one!

Same for me, same Kanthal type builds and can't remember the last time I had a dry hit.

I treat my vape tanks much like I treat the gas tank in my car. 90% of the time, I fill 'em at half.

Really??? You fill your gas tank at half? But that means going to a gas station twice as often as absolutely necessary... If my math is correct. ;)

I don't think I had a dry hit since I stopped using cartos. Maybe one or two when I tried Vivi Novas--those top coil tanks were nasty. But nothing since. Do I get a wristband? :D

FYI - I paid $115 for my Therion 75c and just parts for my Silo75c's were over $90 each so the $65 for the SBody is a smokin' deal. The display is just awesome.

Enabler... :)

KTM, I'm not against TC in principle, just my first tries didn't give me an improved vape over my Kanthal, so I sorta gave up on it. But I may revisit it again. Some time. Soon.

And speaking of Kayfuns--I've seen Prime clones on FT and 3FV. Time for a new attack thread? ;)

Yup. These days I regularly vape my tanks completely dry, then switch flavors without even changing the wick. I mostly only check my tank levels just before heading out of the house. With TC dry hits are a thing of the past.

Think you’ve got something there. With low-wattage builds you have sufficient warning before your tank goes dry. There’s that slight burnt flavor that creeps up at the very end of the fill.

Got one in just a few weeks ago. Battery life was an issue, until I changed the default screen timeout from, darn, crs, either 10 or 5 minutes down to 1. Keeping that clock display going takes power... Door hinges seem perfectly fine. Don't use on-board charging, so the battery gets swapped out tankly. (Ant time I change or refill a tank, I swap in a fresh battery.) Weak battery would / could apply if the battery doesn't have enough oomph to hit the set level - as a tootler I've never seen it :)
Liked that word “tankly”. Immediately understood it; no explanation needed. :D
