I have just read 3 years worth of posts in many different threads regarding long term storage of nic juice. After all that, I'm confused because of all the conflicting answers. (freezer? fridge? cool, dark place? yada...yada...yada) I will be getting 250ml of 60mg pg based nic this week. I also have several small amber bottles to store it in. Simply put, what is the best way to store it long term?

Cool dark place has always been the suggested way, however I keep mine in the freezer and have for quite some time now and with better results. Nic seems to thrive in the cold, Glass bottles and in the freezer would be my suggestion for your storage, but you will get people that beg to differ I'm sure.

Kev, you're going to get many opinions here as well. By the way, I don't have that magic answer for you. One thing you do want to consider is how long you plan to store it. Or, simply put, how long will it take you to use 250ml. It is easier for me to buy what I need, use it, and then buy more when I need it. I guess easy is more important to me than cost savings and storage.

All things considered, you probably have a method at the top of your list right now. Go for it. You're probably right.

I've been getting news letters from madvapes. There testing nic storage in many different ways. Heres a copy:

Over the last 5 weeks MadVapes has been running a test on the concentration of nicotine in samples that are placed in different environments. We then wanted to observe the results over time. We have been posting the results every week in the newsletter and on our blog. We started with a 300 mL batch of PG and nicotine mixed together in one container. We then tested the solution for concentration 3 times and it came out to 35mg. We then separated the solution into 4 60mL bottles and labeled each one according to where it was going to be stored. Our 4 samples were stored and labeled as follows:

Refrigerator
Room Temp, Office
Room Temp, Window Sill
Room Temp, Window Sill, Open Bottle

Each week we have tested all four samples for nicotine concentration. Below are the results.

Sample Name
Nicotine Concentration

Week 1 Week 2 Week 3 Week 4 Week 5

Refrigerator
35 mg 35 mg 35 mg 35 mg 35 mg

Room Temp Office
35 mg 35 mg 35 mg 35 mg 35 mg

Room Temp Window Sill
35 mg 35 mg 35 mg 35 mg 35 mg

Room Temp Window Sill Open Bottle
35 mg 35 mg 35 mg 35 mg 34 mg

Notice that on week 5 the Open Bottle sample dropped 1 mg. We thought the same thing you did at first, "operator error in the testing". But we tested it 3 times with the same results. We are not making any assumptions from our results because it is still early in the testing period and it is just the first change. We are just passing on the results for you to see.

We will continue to test weekly through week 8. We will then test monthly. However if necessary and/or we see a value in testing bi-monthly or continuing every week then we will. We are looking at this with no assumptions and trying to be as systematic, precise and consistent as possible. Look for more to come next week.

Thanks. I'm leaning towards freezing it in several small bottles and use it as I need it. I agree that it's easier to buy what I need, use it, and buy more when I need it. I'm sort of preparing for the possible day when we won't be able to buy it.

How do suppliers store their stuff? Shouldn't we ask them first?
I'm pretty sure most suppliers buy it as they need it :) Stockpiling nicotine for long term storage is probably not part of the average supplier's business plan.

ive been watching the madvapes study. and ive got to say...im really liking the results so far. 5 weeks in and the only one to drop was one that was an open bottle, on the window sill. and it only dropped 1mg/ml after 5 whole weeks!

storing in a cool dry place should keep my original nic level for a very long time. ive only got about 75 mL but it turns out that i suck at DIY so im tabling my unflavored nic for later. also, losing 1mg/ml is not significant enough for it to make a difference to me. i need to dilute my unflavored nic anyway.

im weary about freezing. im avoiding it because i feel the chance for the molecules to change in the extreme low temperature is too great. btw i am basing this on absolutely nothing. pure paranoia lol

I bought 250ml. Broke it into 30ml bottles. For me each 30ml bottle makes approximately a months vape - so I bought 8 months worth. The last bottle I pulled out of the freezer (5th bottle) was still crystal clear. I am getting ready to pull another bottle out in a few days and getting watching for a good sale to buy my next supply.

I definitely would not want to buy from a vendor that has had it in storage for 5 years.

Jc is already flavored. Flavors break down, some more quickly than other.

I got an email from a supplier this morning that says one of their flavorings breaks down if it sits in 40 degrees or less the flavor molecules break down and it tastes weird. So they don't sell it in the winter months.

I find several of my DIY flavors are affected by heat.

Long term storage of unflavored is not nearly as problematic. The freezer works for me.
I hope that helps.

I got an answer from JC, they say that the shelf life of their juices is 6 months, if in a refrigerator the life would be 8 months. honestly, i don't think you can store juices for long term, but that's me....

They're talking about premixed. Unless I'm mistaken this is about storing the nicotine base.
