I use a vacuum mounted vice from Harbor Freight to hold the bases of my Kayfuns when I rebuild them. It has rubber inserts in the jaws and you can adjust it to any angle you want.
Works great.

What's great about the threaded stands (and the reason I wanted one) is that you can use them as top-cap pullers. Some top-caps are held on so tightly by o-rings that I was concerned they might damage the 510 threads on my devices. A threaded stand solves the problem.

I actually carry a spare threaded stand with me in my backpack for just such situations.

Get some fishing line leader like this http://www.amazon.com/Maxima-Leader...01216492&sr=1-20&keywords=leader+fishing+line take the fishing line off. Glue in a 510 connector.
