Hey guys! I've been vaping on ego batteries for almost a year, currently using ego-twist. and I feel its time to get my first mod. from researching I have found that most variable mods are just a case and you have to buy a battery to put in one. Mostly I'm posting for help on which mod to buy. Im going to be going through vaporleaf due to they are a local shop that I trust. Just from viewing I'm looking at:

Zmax Mini - http://www.vaporleaf.com/ZMax-Mini-p/smk-zmax-mini.htm

Joyetech eVic

iTaste SVD

any suggestions or if you have either of these, thoughts on them? Thanks in advance!

also, what's the difference between mechanical and just a vv?

I'm kind of in the same boat as Cody...except I know which mod I'm going to get, but I'm a little confused by the 14500 battery. Do these come in flat-top and in "the-kind-with-the-bump-at-the-top" (WTH is that called...dunno...moving on!)

Doing a lot of research here on ECF, and I'm getting stuff like this:
"...From that site, it lists the Capacity @ 750mAH (min. 700mAH) and the Max. Discharge Rate @ 1.5C. So, using the min. capacity, the max rated discharge would be 1.05 Amps. Then, using the max voltage for the battery (4.2V) and Ohm’s law (R = V/I), we get a minimum(!) resistance of 4 Ohms for attachments, to operate within the rated specs of the battery."

...at which point, my eyes start glazing over b.c I don't understand a word of what I'm reading!

Long and short of it, I'm purchasing an Altoid tin converted to a Dual Barrell mod - this Altoids mod runs at 3.7 volts (non VV/VW). The website says it needs two 14500 batteries.

All of the 14500 batteries I'm looking are not flat-tops. Are they available as a flat top? Do I need a flat top?

What's difference between the TrustFire and AW?

Do I need a specific mah?

What's the difference between unprotected and protected?

What does "IMR" mean?

Am I overthinking the crap out of this?? lol

Any tips would be appreciated! Thanks!

To start, you'll notice the vape upgrade with any of these over your ego's.

For my money, I'd go for either the Zmax or the SVD. The Zmax is all about sleek, the SVD looks like a steampunk lightsaber. Personal taste could be a determiner between the two; both have avid fan bases here in the forum.

Mech mods are a different animal from these 3. They're basically a tube with a switch and a 510 connector - no circuitry to regulate power output (plus no safety features, like short or battery overdrain protection). Most mech users will tell you they are more durable, sleeker, and are a necessity for the cloud chasing subohm vaping they crave (you can fire more extreme coils on the unregulated mechs than on the three you listed). They're the go-to device of the rebuildable crowd. You may or may not eventually count yourself among that horde.

For today, however, I'd lean toward a solid regulated mod like the Zmax or SVD.

Is there a reason why you didn't mention the evic? \

You should also consider the SID. The only issue i've had with mine is that it's so light I forget that it's in my shirt pocket and if I bend over it slips out. It's got a few Knicks in it but still works great. I also have an SVD and I would consider it to be as good of a choice. It's all a matter of what looks best to you.

You should also consider the vamo. I have a vamo v5, svd, and provari. I really like the vamo for the money and if I didn't jump on the provari investment I'd have no problem making my vamo my everyday and just buying another one if it broke. I'm not saying it's as good as my provari but for under $40 it definitely doesn't disappoint and makes it easy for me to recommend.

I never bought an evic because I thought it had too much going on for me, but I did own a zmax, and when it broke I bought an svd. If i were to do it all over I would have bought the svd instead of the zmax because you can use different size batteries and you can stack the batteries which really gives you much more power, you can really feel the difference in the throat hit.
