Anyone here use the Ragnar with the mesh deck and rayon ? I was doing ok with the cotton, but just got the rayon. Can't seem to get the right amount of wick in it. Keep getting dry hits, and not a lot of flavor.

I haven't tried rayon before but I heard that you're meant to use much more of it than you'd use cotton, since it shrinks once it absorbs liquid. Someone told me about mixing the two as well- using rayon on the inside and cotton on the outside of your wick

My guess would be that you didn't use enough rayon, so once wet it shrunk and empty spaces appeared where your mesh wasn't touching the wick- hot spots- dry hits

Rayon has a steep learning curve to get the density right in the coil, it has to be much tighter than you would ever do with cotton, and the tails have to be thinned out 50% or more. If you have never used Rayon before then I would experiment with it on regular coils until you get the hang of it then try it with Mesh.

If you are pulling Rayon through the Mesh like you would with cotton then there is no way you have enough or can get it tight enough IMHO. When I build with Mesh I mount the strip, dry burn it to get any manufacturing residue off and then unclamp one side. I keep stacking strips of Rayon on the deck up until it looks like there is too much, fold the strip over the Rayon and check the density, if the strip is easy to put into the other clamp then you don't have enough. Pack more in and it should take some effort to place the other side of the Mesh down into the clamp.

Thin your tails 50% or more and lightly tuck the remainder into the juice wells, it should be just lightly touching the bottom of the well and not packed in or through the slots.

The biggest problem new Rayon users have is they try and use it like cotton.

Personally, I don't think Rayon shrinks... it just doesn't expand like cotton (it does wick juice well)

First I don't have a Ragnar, all of my mesh tanks have a spring wick tension and I use 3 - 3mm thick strands of cotton and I would use about 4 - 3mm strands of rayon maybe slightly less. But again this is on 24/25mm tanks/squonk rda's. I would say pull through the rayon through you mesh coil as you did before where you think it's tight. Then as @TrollDragon stated, unclamp one side and put another 1/2 amount in. I try and spin it as I try and place it at the top of the wicking so not catch the mesh. Try and spread that new rayon piece so that it goes from one clamp to the other to cover the whole mesh. I then take that piece and trim the rayon a little past the mesh edge and give it your shoulders. Thin the first rayon pulled through the mesh as you see fit for your tails. Seems to work for me on my mesh rta/rdta/rda's.
