Looking for opinions on a new mod - possibly the iTaste MVP 2.0

So here is what I'm looking for. I have some mod (unknown really what this thing really is) I got from local vape shop. My requirements are 18650 (although I don't really care - i need new batteries anyway). I most definitely like having a backup in case my battery dies. I do like the usb pass through. My current mod won't really charge via micro usb very well, just allows me to continue using it. What I don't like about what I have now is that I need a phillips head screwdriver to swap out the batteries. That sucks.

What I would like:
Ability to use sub-ohm. My current mod doesn't like anything less than 1 (may be batteries too). Usually I have 1.3ohm on a Kayfun 3.1 and I'm vaping on very low wattage (8.1 ish)

Is the ability to use the mod as a power source (for say my iPhone 6) a gimmick or ok in an emergency? I really like that if possible.

I don't care about puff counter. Don't really care what it looks like. I'm not a flashy person. I just want it to be reliable. When I started looking into this I was overwhelmed about what is out there. I don't see spending $200-300 on a mod. I've already spent a fortune. I just want something reliable and a small step up from where I'm at now. If it means spending some dough I'm all for it. I looked around and have found several iTaste MVP 2.0 for about $40 and that seems to do everything I want. I've never been steered wrong from ECF so again I'm gonna reach out and ask.

Thanks in advance

If you want to sub ohm the MVP 2 is not the mod for you. The MVP 2 is a very nice mod, but is severely under-powered and limited for sub ohm builds. I had a guy tell me it will fire a .8 ohm build, but very poorly. You would get a better vape sticking with a 1.3 ohm build on the MVP. I do have one and I understand why it's popular. It's very well built and is very consistent from fresh off the charger to the last draw. It does have the pass thru capability and will charge your phone. The phone charging is actually very convenient I've had a few occasions mainly outdoors where it's saved me until I could get back to my car. If I was you I would get a MVP for on the go vaping and look at a high wattage box mod/mech for your sub ohm builds. The battery life on the MVP is amazing most people say they can go 2-3 days of vaping out of it. I get about 2.5 days using it as my sole device. I'm not aware of anything that fits your bill because of the phone charging capability and sub ohm vaping. Out of what you asked for the MVP only lacks the ability of having a back up battery, and sub ohming. You may want to wait until the 3 hits the market and see what it has to offer. Do you have a pic of your mod now?

This is my current setup. I really don't care too much about sub ohm. Not my cup of tea anyway. So one last question does replacing the battery require tools or can you access it easily? How about charging it up via USB? My current rig takes FOREVER to charge via USB. Even with a higher amp usb charger. I end up keeping spare batteries and just swapping out daily.

I don't see a need to wait on a new model. My iPhone is usually the only thing I stay on top of and usually wait for a month or two anyway before buying. Latest and greatest has cause me more issues than I care to remember. I'll let everyone else work the bugs out for me :)

Thanks for the replies. I believe you have me convinced. Anyone have any good recommendations on batteries and where to buy? Seems that everyone sells them and most are junk.

What you have now is some sort of Hana DNA30 clone. They work fine for sub-ohm as long as you crank up the wattage. The real DNA30 does not down-regulate voltage and I believe that's true for the clones also. So your voltage request has to be above battery voltage.

I had a similar device and it worked well until it didn't. I put magnets in it to hold the back on instead of screws. A few small magnets and epoxy...ezpz.

I've since upgraded to a VaporShark rDNA30 and I'm lovin it.

hey supermansrf, welcome to ECF

wondered if you have looked at the iStick

- VV/VW - Variable Voltage / Wattage - Eciggity

I don't have one, but many, many like it

the MVP is a rock solid device !!
you'll wish you had both a some point
if/when you get an MVP you'll kick yourself for not doing it sooner (really)

good luck, let us know how it turns out

:)

If your normal vape settings are what you say, 1.3 ohms @ 8.1 watts, you are only using about 3.3 volts. A VS DNA30 or any or any other DNA30 device is not going to work correctly for you. They only regulate voltage above available battery voltage. Which is ~4.2v on a battery right off the charger, to ~3.7v after using a while.

Maybe something like the MVP would work better for you. It works down to 3 volts. But if you ever want to go above 11 watts, you'll need something else.
