First post! :)

I recently heard about e-cigs through a different forum and ended up purchasing a Pure e-cig starter kit. (I actually bought tow of them) Had my last smoke on Sunday! YEA!!!

While I do like the size, they are needing to be re-charged rather quickly and I suspect that there might be better PV for me out there. What is there any difference between a pen-style and something like a Riva or EGO? Just the size?

I have been reading a lot in this forum and I'm leaning towards getting a Riva or EGO. I like that they have longer battery life and it seems a lot of people on this forum like them. I also think I would rather go the cartomizer (did I spell that right?) route because I like the ease of just switching out carts instad of having to refill. I'm out and about a lot and would like a system where I can just stick on a new cart without have to fill it with liquid.

I'm really confused and lost at this point....even after all the research I have done in the past few days......

Which one of these models would be better with what I want in an e-cig.

Pen style batteries do not have the energy capacity of a Riva or an eGo. Those have respectively 750 mah and 650 mah (milli-amp hours). Most find a Riva or eGo battery will last them between 2/3s and a whole day. Pen style batteries will be about half of that, maybe a bit less.
There are a lot of cartomizers available for Riva/eGo style batteries and connectors. And some suit some people better than others. There are also 2.0 ohm cartomizers, LR Cartos, which will produce more vapor, but shorten the duration of the battery - they take more energy out faster (to simplify). So you will be recharging more often. And lower resistance cartos will dry out faster, and care must be taken not to vape them too dry or you can get a scorched taste, which will probably never go away once you have it in a particular carto.
Still, soft cap cartos are easily refilled, and easy to take along. An excellent choice for many people, though some still prefer atty/cartridge to cartomizers. Cartomizers are inexpensive, but don't last as long as atomizers usually. Five to ten refills is typical, and then they need to be replaced.

I find so far (one day of use) the ego XL (or oversized as it says on the box) cartomizer is pretty damned good. Pita to fill etc but good consistant vaping. Of course you could give the ego-tank sytem a shot too for less hassle. But they do go through juice like mad.... With the ego / riva / tornado at least you get both those options. and tons of battery life. And they look pretty cool too.

I'm getting a lot more life out of my cartos than 5 to 10 refills. If you take care of them, it's not unusual to get a month or so of use out of them, which is a lot of refills. I prefer cartos for when I'm out and about, but most of my vaping is done by dripping.

My first PV was the Riva. It has a slightly better battery life and it's less expensive than the eGo. I would definitely recommend it! Should you decide to get the larger size eGo battery later, all of your 510 hardware will work on it, so you won't have to purchase anything new unless you want to.

Good luck to you and welcome to ECF!

There are several most popular ecigs on this forum, plus the fat battery versions of each. The slim versions have shorter battery life and cannot use the higher-power "LR" (low resistance) atomizers or cartomizers.

Most popular models (with their most popular fat battery version in parens)

Joye 510 (Ego, Riva 510) (most popular model)
KR808D-1 (Elegant Easy) (2 piece model - get this if you mainly want cartomizers)
DSE901 (Riva 910) (a softer airier but tasty hit)

I believe all 3 of those have adapters available for using the other ones' attys/carts or cartomizers. 901 atty will fit on KR8 w/ no adapter. For all, the fat battery version adds much longer battery charge life and ability to use LR parts.

Then somewhat less popular is something like a pen-style which is probably more a girl thing. I don't think there is a fat battery version of any penstyle though some of the more popular models have adapters available for 801 attys - 801 is a penstyle right?)

I recommend the following in the New Member sticky threads:

Hotwire - Is that the only size of cartomzier that would go with the eGo?

Also a general question to anyone.....with the drip tip, How long before you have drip more in?

No you can get smaller ones too that hold I think around .7ml, but why would you want to is my line of thinking as that just means more refilling. The XL cartomizer when screwed on is exact same size as an ego regualr cart and cone set up. It's a nice piece of equipment I must say and is more compact than the tank atty and cart set up. Both have their merits but tank is easier to fill but I found I had to do a lot of experimenting to get my draw down pat on the tank set up. If these XL cartomizers give me a month like another poster suggested I would be very pleased indeed at the price and would always keep one filled in reserve for when I just need to grab and go in a rush and have no time to fill a tank (only 1.2ml) and also the tanks can leak a tad when out and about. I'd reccomend the XL cartos (cheap so nothing to lose) for sure and then perhaps experiment with the tank system later down the line, I don't know. I am a newb also, only a month in but one lesson I've picked up is to start with a quality piece of kit and it will see you through the learning curve (draw technique, maintenance, finding juices you like )and you'll come out the other end with a picew of equipment that still goes strong when it all finally falls into place!

re not filling -

I think if you vape cartos dry and throw them away you will probably spend as much or more on cartos than you did on cigarettes. That's OK if that's what you want to do. You will also be limited to the flavors offered in prefilled cartos. Prefilled cartos with decent juice in them are mostly for KR808D-1

If you use prefilled carts on a 3-piece e-cig most or all of what you can find is the 100% PG Chinese juice (Dekang). A prefilled cart might last for 2-4 cigs? Lotta carts to buy again and not even good juice.

And BTW if you have seen any of those liar rebranders saying a prefilled cart or carto lasts as long as a 20-30 cigarettes they are huge liars. That is how they get people to buy their stuff.

You mean like the one I have already bought? ;)
Although on the refill carts I bought the box does say one cart is equal to 10 cigs.

I just started vaping right before Christmas. Have now hit two weeks with no analogs. Love these e-cigs. At first I did plenty of research and purchased a Titan 510. Perfect e-cig, but, as everyone says, battery life is slim... so, I purchased a Riva 510 and have had it three days now. Used fully charged battery from morning, before work, on Wednesday, and it died on me around 5:30pm on Thursday. I do not vape while at work, but do on way to work, during lunch, and then after work I find that I carry this e-cig with me until I go to bed. Love the fact that the 510 and the riva are interchangeable relative to the attys and cartridges. I can switch between both types of batteries so it is great to be able to choose between skinny and bigger depending on mood or where I might be going. I have learned to always carry an extra battery with me, along with tweezers, e-liquid, extra cartridge and extra atty. Have yet to lose an atty, but I understand that you should be prepared. I use an old eyeglass case which carries everything perfectly, and it will carry either the Riva or 510, fully intact, as well.

I'm sure it is a "learned" preference whether to carry filled carts, or plan to drip into the cartridge, and right now I am dripping into my cartridge as it needs it. This works fine for me, and has not caused any issues.

I think I am fully set for a while with these two e-cigs, and currently playing with flavors and the various vendors out there.

I am really thrilled about how easy putting down the cigarettes has been because of these e-cigarettes. I checked into them a couple of years ago, and the cost and lack of information had me put it aside. Places like this forum or an unbelievable help, and the quality of equipment is now so wonderful that it is hard to believe that anyone would pass on giving them a try. There is no doubt that, for me, the physical aspects of smoking (i.e. holding something, puffing on something) was as big, if not bigger, than the nicotene addiction..... so this is an absolutely perfect solution.:thumb:

TwinJewels: I just saw your post asking about the prefilled carts....... I did not find that the prefilled cartridges held anywhere close to 10 cigarettes..... Best thing to do is use those carts and then plan to have e-liquid that you can re-fill and continue to top off with. Its alot less expensive then trying to keep buying prefilled cartridges..... And alot more fun playing with the liquids as well.

The riva is a great way to go. Liberty Flights has great prices on their Riva stuff right now (don't forget to click the 20% off button in the corner). If you go with the 510 model, it will be compatible with all 510 pieces and the eGo equipment and any other company's version of the 510 ( Tornado, Volcano, etc).

There are many styles and types of cartos that will work with the battery you choose (boge, clearomizers, mega egos, etc). That easily is a purchaser's preference.

Dripping is my personal favorite. Although I was nervous about trying it, I have found it to be the most consistant way to vape. Three drops and I'm ready to go. 3 is the magic number for me!

There is a lot of different styles and models and combinations. Testing them out, to find YOUR perfect vape, is half the fun!

Good luck!
