Looking for some advice about my setup

Hi there fellow vapors!

I'm pretty new to vaping and to this forum as well, I've recently quit smoking and loving my new addiction :D.
I'm using a Kanger Mini Protank II, using a generic type battery somewhat of an evod ripoff without adjustable voltage regulator. I measured the voltages and it runs between 3.9v and 3.3v Depending how low it gets.

I used 1.8ohm single coils to start with, but after a while i wanted more vape. So i decided to switch to 1.5ohm single coils from kangertech, then i started noticing sometimes i get like a nasty metalic taste and i start to wheeze. So i've been trying to fix it by removing one of the wicks that sit on top of the coil, and it seems to have worked but i still don't get the same good strong taste as i used to.

So i guess what i'm trying to ask if i'm running it to hot? Since i've been using 3.9~3.3v on 1.5ohm coils? wich comes down to 2.6Amps and 10.14Watts on the upper end. It would suck if i had to go back to 1.8ohm coils because i love how much vape it gives me.

I Hope made it clear since English is not my native language.
Thanks in advance!

I have a couple of ProTank 2s, but have not used the Mini version. But, I believe they use the same heads. I have never removed the flavor wicks on them. On my VTR, which is a regulated device, I vape at about 9w. Any higher and I get the burnt taste. When I was using them on a regular basis, I got about a week out of a coil, and a little less with some juice.

Since you are using an unregulated device, it's not as accurate. There is really not much you can do. If your budget can handle it, I would look at a regulated device such as an Ego One or the iStick. You will still be able to use the ProTank, but you will have control over the settings you use.

I do the same - pull one thread of wick out of a protank coil to allow more liquid to get to the coil.
And then I vape it at up to 4 volts with coils that tend to be about 1.7 (they're supposed to be 1.5 but run a little high on average if you test them).

What kind of liquid are you using? It it's mostly or all VG, that may just be too thick for a protank to wick well. 50/50 (or more PG) should be OK.

There is not much else you can do except consider eventually upgrading equipment...

Most single coil manufactured heads like what you use with the pt mini vape best around 8w +-1w. You may want to look into a vv ego like a twist or spinner. Better yet step up to an istick or mvp20w.
I vaped 1.8 ohm heads in my pt2 mini a year ago and it worked great on an unregulated ego. I would have to remove one or both of the top wicks when using higher vg juices.
You may be getting some dry hits or maybe your juice isn't meant to be vaped at higher wattages. Try doing a few primer puffs and see if that resolved the issue (draw on it like you are vaping but dont push the fire button). Alternatively try a variable power device or higher ohm coils.

Hello.. just to add my 2 cents .. I have about a dozen protank mini's .. i found an excellent video on youtube .. "rebuild kangertech protank coils" .. I only remember it was about a 45-50 year old blonde women in the video.. she used 32g wire small drill bit (1/16) to (5/64) I think I was using (5/64) since that is the one I have missing ..lol.. anyway..use 6 wraps taking one wrap off from the beginning = 5 total wraps .. then wick with cotton or (japanese cotton pads).. comes to about 1.7-1.8ohms when done correctly.. i used that method for about 5-6 months .. for your info .. you CAN vape Max VG in the protanks using this method .. ps dont forget to burn off the 32g before wraping it around the drill bit. .. I just used a lighter til it was red hot, then whipped it off with a damp papertowel (takes out the springiness) makes it stiff and easy to use .. trust me .. I wrapped 100's of Protank coils this way being that my g/f vapes more then I do .. I really hope you can find the video on youtube .. it is very useful .. and you can buy 100ft of 32g on eBay for about $4 "GoodLuck"
IT PRODUCES A LOT OF VAPE!

Also: these coils will last about 2 weeks and don't throw away REBUILD IT

You shouldn't have to change your coils as often as you do.

I have the regular EMOW and it was pretty good. I was changing coils every 2 weeks or so. Look into the Aspire Premium kit. You get the same things as the EMOW mega kit, but you get an Aspire Nautilus mini tank. IMO, the Nautilus Mini is the best tank in its class.

If you're really looking for a great vape experience without breaking the bank, I'd recommend an Eleaf Istick 20w battery and a Nautilus Mini. Buying those might be less expensive than a kit, although you don't get the extra coils.

I've been thinking about upgrading to a "INNOKIN ITASTE VTR" or a "Kanger EMOW Mega" what do you guys think? It's to bad i can't try it out since we don't have any vapeshops yet here in the Netherlands. Also, how often did you guys change the kangertech coils?

I used to change out my protank heads after about 3 days; by a week they got a distint burnt taste.

Dryburn and rewick with cotton.

I've used a kayfun 3.1 for a while; and I've used a 30mm magma and a 30mm veritas (rda's); I've settled on the veritas; I now have 3 of them.
I highly recommend getting a simple rda early; with an rda, anytime you find something tastes wrong you can actually do something about it immediately; it's like riding a bicycle instead of driving a car; it's great to drive a car if it works, the problem is what to do when the car doesn't work; but a bike, when something goes wrong, it's obvious what it is and you can fix it yourself..

meanwhile, I've also been using a flash-e-vapour; I much prefer it to the kayfun; it's like a dripper but with tank on top with wicks leading down to the dripper part, much like a protank in a sense, but much easier to deal with because it's like having a coil/atomizer head 10x bigger than the protank; they way I set mine up, I can pop the whole top off at anytime to look at the coil if necessary, and it refills like a protank.
The downside, is there's no glass tank, so you can't see how much is left inside.

Hey Thankless I own quite a few protanks and to get the right amount of vapor and flavor I have found that on the 1.8 to 2.2 heads I run mine at 7-8 watts. Have to be careful not to hit them too hot cuz it will burn the little flavor wicks and it will taste awful...on the plus side you can just replace the flavor wicks for a quick fix. I have found that if you really want to make a beast out of that pro 1, 2 heads if you or someone you know can build your own coil for it, do it. I have rebuilt several of mine and the build was with 28 guage kanthol about three wraps around good cotton wick. Should come out in the ball park of 1.3 to 1.5 ohms and I hit mine at 20W on my DNA and they hit like a beast!
