I would first suggest upping the nic level as that's going to be the biggest variable in the equation for TH, which I think is what you're missing. I started out at 18mg, but quickly dropped down to 12, and am now sitting at 5ish. I believe 12mg is where a lot of people wind up. Aside from nicotine flavor is the single most important thing to get right, you want to find something that you enjoy in all aspects, flavor/vapor production/and nicotine satisfaction, or you're not giving yourself the best set up then you're just not going to find that satisfaction.

I suggest trying something between 12 and 18 mg for nicotine, and depending on your preference of analogue I can suggest a few juices that just really did it for me, that or you can get the carto's from whoever carries your thread type.

If it's an 808 I strongly recommend Vapor 4 Life's tobacco sampler, just a good carto sampler that should get you really close, and V2's Red, Sahara, and Congress (Marlboro, Camel, and Parlament). I bought a 30ml bottle after trying the V4L sampler, and while I wasn't a Parlament smoker, the Congress is still just a nice flavor to me. If you're up for filling your own cartos, or refilling, I would strongly suggest Mom & Pop's Tobacco Haze, Virginia Fire Cured, and RY4v2. The RY4v2 is on the sweet side, but it's just amazing in my opinion.

If you decide to refill your cartos check the maintenance forums, youtube, or let me know and I can shoot you some video links for what's worked best for me.

V2 has named their Red cowboy, Marlboro has been getting heavy handed with the lawyers, and you wont see much named anything even close to Marlboro on a juice now lol. Reusing is by far the cheapest way to go, youtube it up a knotch, I personally use a butterball turkey flavor injector (ironic that I'm removing flavor with it?) with some 7/16th Vinyl tubing and boiling water, and 7/16th tubing threaded with string to spin dry the carto after cleaning. Cleaning, for me, is just plugging the carto into the tubing (battery threads facing out of the tube), and flushing water in and out of the carto until I feel good about what I've done lol.

thanks, i'll try upping the nic

Throat hit is the term (not very accurate term) used to describe the "inhaled feel" of smoking. True throat hit comes mostly (90%) from two things: nicotine strength and warmth of the vapor. Since you smoked Marlboro, I would strongly suggest you get liquid in the 18mg to 24mg nicotine strength range. To get warmer vapor, you need a bigger battery model PV. Many of us who smoked Marlboro's use 5 volt and variable volt/wattage PV's such as the GLV2, etc.

thanks, im learning as i go.. so higher volt means hotter vaper? the volt im using is regulated at 3.6 volts. is there that big of a difference between 3.6 and 5 volts?

As a former Marlboro smoker, I ended up making a VV mod that fit the bill.... I wanted warm and thick vapor. My winning combo has been:
4.4V, 1.5 (sometimes 1.8) ohm 306 atomizer, 65% or higher VG, tobacco-based e-liquid at 12mg.
The heat of the slightly higher voltage has overthrown the cooling effect of the thick VG for me, and I have settled in with this setup for several months now. Your mileage may vary, but to be able to be HAPPILY away from analogs resulted in my sacrifice of a discrete form factor... and a couple of soldering iron burns ;)
