I've been vaping for 4 years, and currently using a nemesis mechanical mod (@ 3.7v) with a aspire vivi nova bdc tank and want to take the next step by going with a rebuildable atomizer. I'm looking at the kayfun 3.1 only because I hear it's "entry level" because its "easy" to build. I also like the idea of having a tank. Is this a good idea? Got a better suggestion? Also, what should I start with for coil and wick?

Thanks.

Go with the kayfun or the aqua. The fogger isn't the most easy to get working, The kayfun and aqua I can absolutely say 100% that they work well and are relatively easy to set up. For wicks I use 2mm silica (twisted) in my kayfun and 2mm ekowool (braided) in my aqua. For wire 30g should do you ok. The nice thing about the aqua is that it uses dual coils and has deep juice channels, but does not have a large capacity -1.5ml. The kayfun is single coil with a 4+ml tank.

Honestly I would say make sure you get a dripper too. I've been using an Igo-W while the Russian, 91%, and kayfun mini sit in a drawer. I hated the idea of dripping until I finally got the Igo-W.

Yeah the tank RBA's are easy to set-up, but if you don't know what you like yet (as far as the coil), they can be a PITA. A dripper is really good for messing with different coil diameters, wire size, cleaning the coil, etc. You just pop off the cap and it's right there.

When I first got the Russian:
>make a coil
>connect it
>fill up device
>vape it
>something is off, too harsh, not harsh enough, etc
>unscrew device
>suck up the 2+ mls in a syringe
>wipe off parts so it's not a mess everywhere
>take off coil or adjust it
>rinse repeat

Same thing with taking it apart to clean the coil every few days. It's do-able, but it's a PITA if you don't have the time to jack with it.

I'm not saying to not get a good tank though, just saying it might be easier to practice on a dripper first (and less discouraging). Or at least have a dripper you can fall back on.

I'll be setting up the Russian again sometime soon for any long car rides, but so far I've lasted over a month without missing it. A dripper with unflavored juice=0 maintenance. I literally wipe off the coils once a week with a twisted up piece of paper towel. It's a beautiful thing :D

Bro you'll spend way less time fuking with a kayfun, I'd get the kfl than previously described. If should only take you 2 maybe 3 wicks to get it dialed in, if it doesn't written the first time, it probably will, there's 879473586 million vids on how to do it.
If I feel like changing something up I wait till its empty and proceed. I use cotton and It's easy as pie. You'll spend less time working on a kayfun than dripping drops in a dripper.

Yeah it's real simple to just make a coil.

My point was, how is he supposed to know if he prefers 32, 30, or a lower gauge kanthal? What about lower and higher ohms in each gauge? What about micro vs standard diameter coils? Are you really suggesting it would be easier to experiment with all of those variables on a kfl over a cheap $8 mini dripper with post holes?

Like I said, I wasn't saying get a dripper instead of a good tank. I was saying spend $8-20 on a cheap dripper also (since he's new to rebuilding).

As far as time goes, every couple of days I had to take the russian apart and dry burn the coil. Which also meant replacing the cotton ball wick. Yeah it doesn't take a long time, but after a while it can get old. It's also a PITA when it starts to taste gross mid-tank. If you're not at home, there's a good chance you won't have a syringe on you. You also might not have juice on you because you thought you were good for the day.

If I was literally chain-vaping all day, then yeah dripping wouldn't work. I keep my nic level to where it satisfies me though. Drip>4-5 long drags>drip>4-5 long drags>done. It's really not that bad.

Sounds like you get bored very easily... If one does their research properly, then one would know, you need to change the wicks and dry burn your coil every 2-4 tanks on any KFL type device from the start... PITA or not, it is reality... The majority vaping KFL types use 28g or 30g in their device, so thats not really a big decision as to what to buy. Most use cotton, but a few still use silica, ekowool, or hemp. Not many more variables to it, really... Everything in vaping is different for everyone and not everything works for everyone!!! I chose to go with the Aqua over the KFL's because I wanted the experience of dual coils and didn't want something that was 3"+ long... Very different than what i've used in the past. It took a few days to get a real handle on it, but the vape is the one of the best i've had to date... I know eventually a KFL type is in my future, but until they work out all the kinks in them, i'll be happy with what I am using...

I've had an itch to buy a rebuildable for a couple of months now, and finally broke down and bought a Russian 91% this week. I have no other experience other than rebuilding Protanks using Kanthal 32 and cotton wicks (Peaches N Cream yarn and butcher's twine). Since it's all I have on hand right now, I used the same Kanthal and cotton for the Russian, same old 5/4 wrap around a machine screw, to get a 2 ohm+/- coil, nothing fancy at all. I actually found it a little harder to build the Russian than the Protank, but I just need to get my system down.

I can say I'm really shocked at the difference between the two. I'm not a big cloud chaser or anything, but the vapor production out of the Russian is incredible using the same very simple, basic coil setup. So far, I've had no leaks, no bad hits, no problems with it. No buyer's remorse on the Russian here.

Great points electric and tbev. I've watched so many building videos it's making me sick. But electric, I completely understand where you're coming from. Makes sense after watching the vids. And yeah, I decided on using cotton "organic" yesterday just from seeing the results vs the other wicks on youtube.

Maybe i'll take a look into one of the many vape shops here in town and see whats up with drip rda's. Igo-w?

Yeah if they won't build you a coil for free, go somewhere else , and let them know that's why your going somewhere else.. If they do give the builder a tip,

If your looking to play around with coils an igo is great place to start, I don't like how people do that, start with something, graduate to something a bit more expensive.. You end up with a lot of six you don't want and you paid a lot of money on the way to what you could have just pulled the trigger on in the first place.. Just my 2 cents

Depending on the juice, if you build it right, you can get 4-6 tanks off a wick, I find, the sweeter the juice, the less the wick lasts
