Hi everybody. I don't really post very much but I sure do lurk! This forum has been a wealth of information for me so thank you to everyone.
Anyway, two mere weeks ago I bought a K100 and an el-cheapo rda to use with it instead of the cartridge that came with it. I know that a k100 could be considered entry-level so.....
Then last week, already sick of the cheap-um rda's shortcomings (poor airflow, short posts, etc) I bought a congrevape doge. OMG! I LOVE it! I would recommend to anyone.
Now, the threads on the k100, where the rda attaches, are worn out. I can't screw anything into it. I actually can't even believe that it would be so poor of quality that it would happen at all, especially after just a couple weeks.
Now, I can't find just that part (of course) so I guess I'll just replace the whole battery compartment. (I apologize, I do not know the proper terminology yet)
So my question is: Do I get what I pay for or is a large price-tag mostly cosmetic?
Or maybe you would just recommend?

I used to think "why would this rda be $15 and this one be $40? Is it that much better?" Now I know that yes it is. Does this apply to a simple battery carriage as well?

In my experience cost can be a factor, but if you take a little time to read about a mod (the "battery carriage") you can find some very cheap and nice ones. I was never really happy with mech mods (mods that have no circuitry like your k100) and am very happy that there are so many affordable regulated mods out now.

I also just recently got the Doge and it has become one of my favorite RDA's as well. I have been using it on either my Segelei 100 watt plus or the IPV3. Both of those are regulated mods, witch means that you can control how much power goes to the RDA. If you have around $100 to spend I would highly recommend either of those mods.

The only mech mod that I really like now is my Caravela clone that I got from fasttech. You can get that one for around $20 but it takes forever to get shipped from china, so it is a trade off. I also had to sand down the center post in mine so that the RDA would fit flush with whatever battery I used in the tube. I wouldn't recommend doing that unless you have the tools and some knowledge on how to do something like that, but if you want to learn it is really easy and only $20 if you mess up :). I did it with a cheap beater dremel I got at harbor freight, although it would be easier and look nicer if I had a real sander.
