Thats how we do it. We both transfer XXX dollars each month to the "House" account. I never touch that, let my wife handle that. Then we both have our own accounts for guitars, ecig, hookers and whatnot

Sounds like my family. I was going to purchase some device and asked my wife about it. She asked how much and said nah it could be better used somewhere else. So I didn't. She gave me a kiss goodbye and I asked where she was going? It was her monthly hair appointment. It is 200+ bucks a month for a hair appointment.

With a fixed income it was simply a matter of looking at the budget and figuring out what we could afford. Not a negotiation at all. He wants me vaping and frankly wishes we could have spent more early on so I would have spent less long run LOL.

I work very hard for my money. I have been able to make a fair amount after 25+ years of working. It's mine, and everyone else's vote on how I spend it counts for zero.

I always compare it to her mani's and pedi's and just call me ordering my things "maintenance" for keeping me off cigs. It's something we all enjoy to do, a hobby if you will. Sure it may not be "necessary" but hell neither is buying soda or a bunch of other crap that everyone has around the house and we do that anyway.
As with everything in life, there are trade-offs. I may not get to spend "my money" however I want, but if I were single, I wouldn't have access to his income either.
