I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with loose snus or does everyone just use the portions?

I see there is an Ice-tool thing which aids in making/inserting a pris but I'm wondering about what happens after that. I'm not keen on the idea of loose bits of snus floating about my mouth but if it stays in one piece, being able to size it precisely is somewhat appealing (not to mention the cost-benefit of course). Alternatively, would it work to make a pris from loose and then wrap it in the same material that teabags are made of?

I believe there is absolutely none health risk difference between those two forms of snus. The only danger could be in the fact that you might use more tobacco than in the pouches, thus getting more drug in your system, if you are not careful with dosing. Otherwise, the only differences are cosmetic (con), financial (pro) and gustatory (questionable).

After you place pris in, it keeps there unless you lick it (my frequent mistake because of the taste) or otherwise disturb it. I could not learn how to eat with loose snus. Drinking was not a problem.

I would not wrap it in anything. It sticks together and to the gums (actually removal is the main issue with loose) and you would lose this by wrapping. Then it might go and travel under the lip in an unfortunate manner.

I have been using both loose and pouches. I use pouches while I'm at work and then loose as soon as I finish for the day for the rest of the night.

I use the icetool for all my loose. It makes a nice round compact pris which stays together fine. Once you learn to just leave it alone you have no problems of it falling apart.

The benefits in using loose for me are price, more comfortable than pouches, and less salt content on most brands.

Thanks for all your replies, I'll probably go ahead and get an icetool and some loose the next time I order from Sweden (no post today sadly, still waiting for my portions - it would be so nice to be able to just pop down to the tobacconist/corner store just like in Sweden/USA).

I opened a portion last night and made up a pris manually and it did stay together no problem but I need to work on the shape I think (or just get an icetool).

I knew of a dude who bought loose snus and made his own pouches with teabag material. I have tried the loose, I prefer loose tobacco to pouches cause I dunno, it feels better, taste better, and i feel like im actually consuming tobacco lol.

But it takes getting used to, The loose snus is not like american dip. It is extremely fine and can get quite muddy if you are a beginner. Its difficult to pack at first, you have to get the hang of it, but afterawhile its easy. If you make ur own pouches, U dont have to worry about forming it, just stuff it into something thats like a teabag material.

Hi Kitabz. I use loose when I'm at home alone. "Closet los'er" ;)
I use an icetool, the small one is perfect.
Many people have made their own portions using tea bags. I really like
Skruf stark los and General

If you have any questions pm me :D

As of yet I haven't tried los, though it looks tempting. I could get 90 mini sized hits from a tin as opposed to 20. Even accounting for some waste, at least 80.

I wouldn't even think of doing it without an icetool. My question, if I wanted to do mostly 0.5 gram hits would they stay together? And if so for how long on average?

I use the Icetool and mainly set it for 1.5 gm pris and it stays together fine. I generally leave it in for an hour or 2 before it starts to fall apart. the Icetool works wonders with los and is definitely worth the price if you are going to stick with it. Only problem I've had with los is drinking anything while it's in. Little tricky to get used to at first without making mud of your pris. I generally use a straw now when I have a los in.

IMO, General, Roda Lacket and Skruf stark los are the easiest to bake by hand. There are some other los that are almost impossible to bake without an icetool.

The Skruf los is great because you can back a pris the size of a tick tac and still get a buzz....very high in vitamin N :D
Got to agree with the Skruf stark los being one of the best. It's my favorite los so far. Stays together nice, great taste and plenty of vitamin N like you said.:thumb:

Got my loose a few days ago along with the 3mm ice-tool. Wasn't working for me at all. lots of mud slides. Then I remembered my dentist told me I have a bit higher saliva output then normal. I guess he would know about those things. Not wanting to throw away six cans of loose, not to mention the icetool, I tried the teabag method. Emptied a bag of Lipton, cut off a small piece and rapped a pris from the icetool.

Works very well. Feels at least as comfortable as normal portions. It looks as if I'll get about 8 portions per tea bag. I may be trying some other materials this week. I'm wondering if coffee filters would work. I don't have any on hand as I don't drink the stuff. I used to get hemp rolling papers for RYO tobacco which could be another possibility.

Someone could make a few dollars out of this by selling sheets of teabag materiel for making your own portions.

Do you bake your pris? I need to know how to bake one and if it would work to bake a bunch of pris, then store them in an old snus container to use as needed, in the method that another poster mentioned, getting 80-90 mini hits out of one can of loose. I finally have one empty snus tin from my first order and saved it for just such an occasion.

I only have one can of loose, which is the first and only I bought. I got Roda Lacket since snus lore teaches it is the easiest to work with. I just haven't opened it as of yet and everyone keeps sending me links to videos, when I would really prefer to see a list of step by step instructions for baking a pris. I have no worries about hand shaping Roda. Actually, I really only need to know what temperature to bake it and for how long.
