So I'm back with my 2nd problem.

Using the Aspire Atlantis tank with the Cool Fire IV. Had it for about 6-7 weeks now.

I've noticed that when I now use a new coil.. there's never any flavour. Yes, I know how to prime it etc but I just get no flavour at all. I've checked to see my replacement coils are genuine and they are so I don't think that's the issue unless I just had a bad pack of 5 coils?

The one that came with the tank was great. The first two/three coil swaps were fine, but the last two from the pack... no flavour (Ok there is, but its minimal) and just horrible in general because of it.

Not sure if Aspire are just not that good, or if its something else...

For reference I'm running at 25w, 0.5 coils, and Suzy 6 - 13 sins liquid.

Anyone got any ideas where I go from here? Once again I'm a bit lost as to the cause of my problem but hoping the great folks of the forum can assist yet again :)

I don't have an Atlantis myself, but I know that some of the tanks have really poor replacement coils, even though the originals are nice. Someone can correct me if I am wrong, but I believe the Arctic Tank also gets that complaint. You could look at getting different coils for it, there are a bunch of companies that make coils that fit into an Atlantis tank. I hear nothing but good things about Clapton coils from the guys at my local B&M store, but I have not tried any yet. Flavor is supposed to be MUCH nicer on Clapton. I'm sure some folks here can recommend some different ones to try for you.

@Tol To confirm, it would only be the coil and not the tank right? Stupid question but how do I know which coils will fit and which wont?

I'm happy to try a different brand of coils. I'd just rather not have to buy a new tank as well if I don't need too / if that makes no difference?

On the other hand.. if it does... any recommendations? I chose the atlantis as where I live the selection is rather small, though looking online.. it can be a minefield.

Seems mad to me how its gone from a nice sweet taste, to the feeling of smoking a cig. i.e. yuck!

Yes, just the coils, the Tank should be fine unless it leaks or something, but yeah, you can try different brands that are made to fit your tank, just be sure you pay attention to the resistances on them to make sure your mod & batteries will be ok with them. You can look around online or ask your local vape shop to see if they have ideas, most will and you can typically pick up a single coil at shops and test it out. That way you could see if you like them or not, or even try a single Aspire coil to see if in fact you had a cruddy batch.

@Tol Hmm. Where I am they are only sold in packs of 5 in my local store. Prob a downside of being in a small location within the UK.

Think I'll be sticking with 0.5 coils due to having a device that only goes to 40w. Just need to find a better brand. If you're unsure its cool, but how do I know which will fit and which wont? Might try to source Clapton coils online.

How long have you been using the same flavor of juice? Try to change it every once and a while to avoid vapers tongue... Seems to happen more often to people that don't brush their teeth (eww)...

Have you played with the wattage's? some coils have a flavor range and to find it adjust your wattage 1 watt at a time even if its not in your normal range.

It's not vapours tongue :)

I've tried a few diff flavours over the last 6-7 weeks, though have gone back to the 1st one I enjoyed. Its def not vapours tongue. I will def have to try some new coils though. Big difference in the one that came with the device, the spare, and the pack of 5.

If you have three 1.5 ohm coils, and 1 is a nichrome 32 gauge single coil, another a kanthal 30 gauge single coil, and the other a 32 gauge kanthal dual coil, they will all perform differently at the same wattage.

Packs of coils may also have duds, or a coil may have a hotspot, or be shorting out on the side of the housing; with tiny coils, there can also be wide variations in airflow because when the wick gets wet it expands and can block/reduce airflow.

I kicked tanks that use premade coils to the curb and use two RTAs.

The problem with premade coils is that sometimes they have too much cotton and you get dry hits or nor enough cotton causes spitting or leaking issues.

I ran into this same sort of problem not to long ago with my Atlantis v2 coils. The .5 coil that came with it was very good. After about three weeks of use I decided to change it out. After the pre soaking and primes and sitting for about an hour and a half it had a very bad burnt taste. Not burnt juice or cotton - it was like a burnt paper. It actually tasted like a firecracker smells :nah:(if that makes any sense). And it was very strong and wouldn't go away. So I tried another coil. Same thing. That was my last coil so I went and got some more and went thru 2 more of those before I got one that was good. I even took the tank apart and cleaned it just incase it was something in the tank.

I don't know what happened. Four bad coils in a row? At $4 per coil I shouldn't have to spend $20 to finally get to a good coil! I really think it had something to do with the wicking material they use. I'm not sure what it is but I've taken one apart and it seems different than just cotton (Icould be wrong). I bought the Triton coils this time and once this Atlantis coil goes bad I will use them and see how it goes. But I wouldn't think there would be a big difference in the materials used for the Triton coils vs. the Atlantis coils.

I love the Atlantis tank when the coils are good but I have been using my Subtank Mini more lately since I can build my own coils. I am thinking about taking the route that @Two_Bears did and go with straight RTAs. I already have a Goblin headed my way through snail mail!

@Two_Bears Are RTA's the one you put the liquid on directly before having a hit? (Not sure what they are called if not, but had a go on one in my local store when I first decided what to buy) They were def more flavoursome but I'd prefer one I can just hit and go as and when required, i.e. a tank. Also... why do you use two?

@Stephen1520 I know the feeling! I cant use the Triton coils from memory, due to not having enough wattage. Pretty sure they're recommended above 40w which is the limit of my device.

What are the benefits of building your own coils? Is it for better value or better coils? Not meaning to sound lazy but I'd prefer a product off the shelf that just does the job, well.

Everyone has their own preference. I used to only buy stock coils but when I started making my own coils and somewhat got the hang of it, I really started to enjoy it. Sort of a pride in being able to build a coil that vapes exactly the way you want to vape. And it's definitely better value (IMO) to build your own coils. Atlantis 2 coils are around $4 a piece! I can build a coil for pennies. :2c:! But I do keep a few stock coils on hand in case I'm in a hurry and can't rebuild. I have recoiled an Atlantis stock coil but it's a pain and time consuming but I can complete a coil build on my Subtank mini deck in no time

And here is the kind of RTA/RDTA @Two_Bears is talking about

For beginners the Kanger STM is the best way to go. It comes with an RBA and it is very easy to build on. Using Koh Gen Doh cotton really packs in the flavor. The new plus RBA's are the way to go. No more burnt taste and just really good flavor. Even with Kanthal at 10-20W. That is all I use right now. There are holes on the side which give constant juice and flavor.

Can I confirm that the above is this... http://www.ifancyone.com/kanger-sub-tank-mini.html ?

Guessing that's all I need and it will go straight on the Cool Fire IV? (I'm guessing most of these tanks are universal and will fit most devices though its best to be safe and confirm before ordering over the internet)

Liking the sound of it thats for sure. Thanks for the recommendation! @skullblade789
