Hey guys i have been vaping 70/30 pg/vg for a while and my coils usually last me 2 to 3 weeks. Ive began using lost art liquids thats 15/85 pg/vg and my coils only last me a couple of days. Im using prebuilt coils. Now is it possible to poke a hole in the cotton once through each side to make the coil last longer? Ive seen it done on a youtube video but idk if it is worth risking a coil to do the trick in case it doesnt i want to hear from yall

Welcome to the forum, @Vapinggenie !
Coil life is dependent on a few different factors. Generally speaking:
  • Higher power will gunk up your coils faster
  • Sweeter e-liquids will gunk up your coils faster
  • Darker e-liquids will gunk up your coils faster
  • Some flavor additives will gunk up your coils faster
That being said, I can't answer about what you need to do with your specific setup, but if you can give us a few details about what you're vaping on (Mod, atomizer, power levels, coil resistance, etc.), we can figure something out.

Improving the wicking by messing with the cotton in the juice holes is always worth a try but doesn't necessarily change much.
I might be wrong, but unless you are definitely getting dry hits (you'd know or sense if close) allowing more juice to a coil that already has enough juice probably won't prolong the life.
I do know that for example, iSub coils wick a little slow whereas Eleaf EC coils wick faster. The Eleaf last longer (also at higher power) but if I hit the sweet spot for both (best power for wicking), there'd be almost nothing in it.
You can try, no harm in poking around as long as you don't tweak the coil in an unwanted way.

I bought a vaporizer that came with the Big Beast Baby, the original atomizer so far has lasted about a month and a half. I'm vaping at 350F temp mode, make my own liquid, 80 PG 20 VG, 3 mg. I'm now using the RBA deck in the tank with dual Claptons, after a month I burned the coils to clean the and it's working great.
Quite a while ago I had an Eleaf Pico and have to agree that they have very good atomizers that last a long time, good vapor and flavor.

Hi Vapinggenie & welcome
The gunking up of your coil is likely being caused primarily by the sweetener in your juice and being helped along by some of the darker flavors like chocolate.

Sticking a pin through the cotton is most likely someone trying to get thicker VG juice to wick better. Some of the older style coils had very small juice holes but most coils these days have much larger ones so doing this shouldn't be necessary anymore. It was a hit and miss thing anyway.

You can try gently flushing and cleaning your used coils with plain water. This may help get a bit more life out of them. The other route is rebuildable.

I use a lot of lost art they are a very popular brand at my local shop and they use a lot of sweetener. I get about 1-2 weeks if I'm vaping pretty heavy. So I just started to build my own coils because I do like sweet juices. You will get used to what you like and how often you will need to change it. Try some Betty in it and it won't last 4 days. Haha.
