    Somewhere between here and there
Hello and welcome. Today I will do my best to cover the lost vape Orion Bar OB5500 that was sent to me in a very nice limited edition gift box containing three different flavors along with lanyards and the boxes folded flat. These were sent to me by the Orion Bar representative in order to provide a fair and honest review. The OB5500 is a disposable unit that is rated for up to 5500 puffs while containing 14ml of e-liquid. The liquid they contain is 50mg and the OB5500 is auto draw only. It does however contain a sliding airflow control which is a nice touch whether it be a disposable or not. The battery contained inside is rated at 500mah and can be recharged using the USB-C charging port located on the bottom of the device.

    INITIAL THOUGHTS:

I was very pleasantly surprised when I opened the package from Orion Bar and discovered that I had been sent a special edition gift box. I am one of those people that really likes nice packaging and this one is really very nice. The box is very colorful and really grabs your attention. It has the Lost Vape name in multi colored lettering on the front as well as the words Disposable Device underneath. I was a little surprised that it didn’t say Orion Bar on the outside though.

Once opened, inside I found three of the Orion Bar OB5500 disposable devices wrapped in plastic sealed pouches along with the boxes that the OB5500’s would normally come in when purchased. Also in the gift box was a very colorful lanyard that has a loop on the end to go around an OB5500. At first I thought the small round object in the box was a pin that you could attach to a hat or something but in fact it is what I call a pop socket that can be attached to a phone or other device to assist in holding the device. Very thoughtful of them to include that.

Now that you’ve seen what I received for the review, let’s take a look at what you can actually expect if you decide to purchase some of the OB5500 disposables. They will come in a cardboard box with just the device inside sealed in a plastic pouch. The front of the box has a nice color picture of the actual device contained inside and states the flavor of the liquid in the device. There is a large warning on both the front and back which I am guessing is required by the U.S. market or it wouldn’t be there. It is nice that there is an ingredients list on the back side of the box. Both sides of the box list the liquid flavor which is 50mg strength nicotine salts and one side give a list of specifications for the OB5500 and lets the user know that it is 5% nicotine which means it is 50mg per ml concentration. I personally have not been a fan of nicotine salts but can see where it is beneficial in this type of device which is targeted at helping smokers make the switch from smoking to vaping.

The OB5500 has a colorful body with a clear plastic covering the design underneath. Both sides have a picture of what looks like a person in a gas mask and the flavor is stated also on both sides. One side does have the added branding of the Lost Vape name and the OB 5500 inside a rectangle. Once removed from the pouch, each one has a rubber stopper in the ergonomic mouthpiece to prevent any debris from entering. This could be saved for use when pocket carrying if you wanted to but I pocket carried these one at a time at work and had no issue getting anything in the mouthpiece. They are very lightweight and hardly noticeable when pocket carrying.

Also when first opened there is a silver sticker on the bottom of the device that blocks airflow and must be removed before use. On the bottom is where you will find the USB-C charging port as well as a sliding airflow control. I always prefer any device to have adjustable airflow and was very happy to find out that the feature is included on these. To the right of the charging port for the 500mah battery is a single light indicator. It turns on when taking a draw but goes out quickly so it is a little hard to see it while using the device. It also illuminates when charging the battery and goes out when fully charged. I will say that despite the battery only being 500mah, it seemed to last a long time while using the included 1.0 ohm mesh coil built into the OB5500. I did connect it in line with my Klein USB tester and it was pulling .57 amps while charging initially and it seemed to drop from there and level out around .38 amps. The OB5500 cannot be used while charging so if this is your only device then I would recommend getting two of them so you can use one while the other is charging.

    FINAL THOUGHTS:

I had previously reviewed the 7500 version of the Orion Bar and did like some of the samples that I received but felt like they had too much menthol for my tastes. This seems to be a trend across many different manufacturers of disposables that I have tested. I was hoping that the OB5500 would be a little different. I was not disappointed. The menthol in each was definitely less strong than what I remembered from my past experience.

You have to keep in mind that tastes are subjective and vary from person to person but here is what I thought of each of the three flavors that I received.

TRIPLE BERRY: This one sounded like something I might like so decided to try it first. I get the taste of dark berries mostly but there is an off taste to it that reminds me of a recipe that I mixed once that had too much cactus flavor added to it and left a bad aftertaste in my mouth. Due to that taste, this one got the least amount of use during my testing. It did have some menthol but was not offensive and was able to take consecutive puffs without it hurting my throat like some disposables that I have tried.

STRAWBERRY WATERMELON: I’ve never been much of a watermelon flavor person when it comes to vaping but I have to say that I really enjoyed this one and it quickly became my favorite of the three. It has a little more menthol than the first one I tried but the flavor is very good. I get mostly watermelon from this one but can tell that there is some strawberry in it. This one got the most use but I did not finish any of the three during my testing.

KIWI BERRY: This one was a close runner up to the Strawberry Watermelon. I get mostly dark berry flavor with a little kiwi in the background. It’s honestly a flavor combination that I wouldn’t think of to mix myself. It has about the same amount of menthol as the Strawberry but once again is not offensive. All three seem to use the same sweetener and all three are more of a candy type flavor as opposed to being an authentic fruit flavor. The candy fruit flavor along with the sweetener seems to linger on the lips for a while after stopping use.

So, there it is. I have never been a regular disposable user but have tested a handful of different ones and would say that these are definitely in the top two of the ones I’ve tried. The 500mah battery combined with the 1.0 ohm mesh coil provides good flavor with a decent amount of vapor while lasting what seems like a long time between charges to me. I did do a little chain vaping with these to help test the strength of the menthol and they delivered flavorful vapor without any dry hits. However, with the 14ml of liquid inside being 50mg, I could not chain vape them as long as I would an rta or rda that I was testing. It’s just too much nicotine for me after a while. I didn’t get a noticeable throat hit despite the strength. On a device like this I prefer a loose MTL type draw and was able to get that easily with the sliding airflow control located on the bottom. Overall I can definitely see these helping to get smokers to make the switch to vaping.

I would like to thank Lost Vape and Jason for sending the Orion Bar OB5500 gift box set for my review. As always, thank you to the readers. I appreciate your time reading my reviews. Below is a link to the website if you’d like to take a look for yourself.

Great review Hitt, it's nice having adjustable airflow on devices like this.
Thanks Bob. I definitely like it. With high strength salt nic I like to be able to tighten the draw some.
