It was an 85....looked just like this. The Brougham model. It was a nice car.

Classy!!! :thumb: I was remembering something like the first model. I think it had a spare tire mounted in the trunk, on the outside on the back lid, like where it latches closed. I think that was the Toronado. A mid to late '60's model.

Those were called continental kits....I think. And they were on several cars over the years....I remember the Fords with them.

That sounds right. :thumb: There used to be one of those Toronados in my neighborhood when I was a kid. It was brown. A really fine looking car!

So you enjoyed the Auto Show. Stone. I missed quite a few posts.
It was okay...back in the early 2000s we would get tons of great concept vehicles, but we don't get as many now. It seems the car companies take those to other shows. I'd like to go to the Detroit Auto Show one day :D But all in all, ours is pretty good....and I like to go alone so that I can spend time where I want and not be obligated to spend time where I don't. I guess that makes me anti-social and selfish in a way

I find it quite understandable, really. Who wants to look at box kites when you're into parasailing?

Too bad you don't get the concept cars anymore. I bet that was great. Was it all new cars?

Most automakers show up with current models, and usually at least one close-to-production prototype. There were also a few concepts, but none really far out there...just a couple of years out. Rolls showed a Wraith with very cool suicide doors :D The new Sonata looks much more understated...I think Hyundai is backing off the Fluid design language quite a bit, and it looks better to my eye. I have to say that I don't much care for the direction of Mercedes new designs much either. I do wish we could drive more of these models, since that is what really matters. Every year, Jeep sets up an obstacle course so that you can ride in their vehicles "off-road" style...but you don't get to drive them and you usually have to wait in line for at least 20 minutes. I didn't have the patience for it this year

Cool of Jeep to do that. (You edited!!!) Personally, I think they might be more desperate for sales than others. It seems their name has fallen, but I certainly don't keep up with these things like it appears you do. I used to be able to tell you the year, make, and model of every car on the road. It's been years since I kept up like that, but I know I'd enjoy a show like you just saw. Maybe Detroit now even more, since there are more concept designs there now. The closest I've ever come to a concept vehicle is a magazine.

I had to edit...I accidentally posted before I was done! I was still typing away when I must've brushed the trackpad

I still keep up with cars a bit, eventhough I don't own one any more (maybe because I don't own one any more). I used to love seeing the concepts in person...Volvo and Saab used to show some really awesome concepts. Nissan did show a concept this year that is supposed to show us the direction of their design language....and it's, ummmm, interesting (definitely busy) :D

EDIT: Oh yes, and I do get Autoweek magazine...but it doesn't cover the concepts like R&T or C&D...

Stone,

Have you heard of a band called Morphine? I heard a partial track in a movie last night, edited to fit what they wanted it to say. I really liked the saxxy music and bass lines, so I Googled the words to find the song. It was by Morphine. I don't get most of their messages (I listened to a few songs), but I really, really like the music.
