VG: This was posted today by one of my friends. Any ideas?
I know a very young woman who is being cyber stalked. The creep sends text messages and emails on a daily bases at all hours of the day and night abusing her. I think he also has managed to access the cameras at her work because he implies that he is watching her comings and goings. She went to the local police and they told her that there is nothing they can do until he actually tries to carry out his threats. This poor little thing is so stressed! I can't help but wonder if this person is probably doing this remotely and there must be someone, somewhere that can trace them! This has been going on for four months now. Anybody got a suggestion that might help or know of someone that might be able to trace? Is there a cyber police force?!
Hello, Dear Heart.
I've never gotten into Hacking or anything like that, so I don't know any of their tricks or ways around them, but it doesn't sound right that he can actually see her with cameras to me, unless he has hacked into her workplace and they have cameras there that he can get into somehow. In that case, she should talk to the business Network System Administrator or head IT people and tell them about it. Just pray that the weirdo doesn't work in their IT Dept at work! Maybe she should go to her boss's boss about it, depending on who she's already spoken to at work. Then again, he may just be keeping her unnerved by implications.
All I can suggest is that she change her cell phone number, so he can't text her, and change her email address for the same reason. If she thinks he's watching her somehow at home, like on her laptop cam, she may need to change ISPs or get a new account through them by closing the old one.
Have her think about who it might be, like someone she met in town, at a bar of something... someone she may have brushed off or something like that. I'm sorry she's having to go through this, and I'm sorry I don't have any real answers.
