Unless I'm blind and didn't notice before, the review sections have some new disclaimers.

CAUTION:
1. Some reviews are paid for by the vendor and therefore may not represent an independent view of the product. In some cases they are a form of advertising, and adverts don't tell you what is wrong with the product.
2. Reviewers' websites may contain affiliate links, and an enthusiastic review might lead you to click a link and then purchase the product.

* Please always consider if the review may be leading you to buy a product and result in paying a fee to the reviewer (called an affiliate commission).
* e-liquid reviews are entirely subjective. You may find that following a reviewer with similar tastes to your own is likely to give the best results.

This is awesome because one of the challenges of being a new vaper is sorting through the BS from a very large army of affiliates or just folks who receive tons of free product. It's part of the reason ECF is invaluable resource. In fact, If I had to choose a new rule for reviews posted here, I would require disclosure. Any reviewer who will benefit financially/materially from the purchase of the product should state that fact up front.

An example. If I had chosen an e-cig from the first reviews I found on the net, I would have ended up with a nic stick or blu instead of the superior and cheaper kgo/cart combo that I ended up with.

Thoughts?

Yeah, the ECF tries to give us the best information we can get. There's too much misleading marketing out there, so we need all the help we can get.

Yep, that's why I do my videos. It gets so confusing and then you figure out thy are paid reviews. I won't even put my referral code for smokeless image on my videos to make sure that people know, it's my opinion and that I am not being compensated in any way

It's been well known for long time certain reviewers are actually receive freebies and are also compensated for their reviews. Due diligence requires we search out information from multiple sources, confirm and reconfirm the information. When I first discovered Vaping I spent 2 weeks researching the general aspects of Vaping- juice, diff voltages, delivery systems, etc. I then spent another 200+ hours looking for the perfect PV. Did I find it? No LOLLLLLL but I began with a solid PV that I knew inside out before I had even received it. Because of this DD my transition into Vaping was painless and a complete success from day 1. The only change has been to own a backup system and upgrading delivery systems when I felt certain issues had been resolved by the manufacturer. In my research I found ECF invaluable. Google can also be your friend IF you are able to use it properly- an amazing research tool. Coming in third was YouTube. My belief in life has always been "the more you put into it the more you will receive".
Cheers.

I got so sucked into the paid reviews when I got started. That's how I ended up with a blu. Very confusing as a new person. I got very aggregated when I learned that companies don't post negative reviews that you add.

Despite the FDA's effort to neuter it—or even euthanize it—vaping is alive, and still has a touch of the Wild West in it. Speaking for myself, that's just how I like it. It means a stateside cottage industry of innovative devices and juices with a home-grown soul and sophistication—unlike the homogenized, mass-produced Chinese imports.

It also means guys wearing black hats, carnival hucksters, snake oil salesmen, et al. The present-day, vaping equivalent would be be FREE TRIAL! scammers, mall-kiosk bottom-feeders and—last but not least— prostituted "reviewers" pimped out by big money suppliers.

All of these are generally easy to recognize, and they're a small price to pay for a vaping landscape not yet thrown into handcuffs and leg irons.

I bought Juice from DFWVapor.com Based on glowing reviews on their site. 2 30ml juices were almost tasteless . I've been Vaping for almost 4 years and have never had such bland juice . Tried it with 5 fellow Vapors , on several setups with horrible results. So you can take the "Taste is subjective" thought and through it out the window. on a 1-10 for flavor it was a 0.01

To make a long story short , I left a negative review on their site. Guess what popped up ? A message that said you review has been submitted for approval. Approval , oh you mean CENSORSHIP!!!!!!! Its BS They have Fake reviews of a horrible product . DFWVapor.com should be embarressed for even having a review section with that message.

The cottage industry is one of the coolest parts of vaping right now, and I hope that never changes.
I also applaud ECF's disclaimers which in no way threaten quality producers, cottage or otherwise.

I did the same thing with several companies. The worst though was blu. I submitted a review therer, it said it was accepted and it never showed up on their site.

It is a pity that people have to be so cynical because of the tactics of companies like Blu and V2 that inundate Youtube with their noob2noob "reviews".

OTOH, many of the most respected reviewers are provided free merchandise. Is a reviewer who receives a $100 PV to be trusted more than some person who gets $2 worth of merchandise credit? Not necessarily, but there is nothing wrong with using an affiliate link if someone has introduced you to a product, the suitability of which is verified by other sources.

As for ECF's disclaimer, this one ought to be worded differently as it is misleading:
Please always consider if the review may be leading you to buy a product and result in paying a fee to the reviewer (called an affiliate commission).

It should be revised to read:
"Please always consider if the review may be leading you to make a purchase for which the reviewer is paid a referral fee (called an affiliate commission)."

There is a difference between those two statements.

If you weren't aware of how affiliate commissions work, the original statement leads you to believe you'd be paying a fee. In fact, it merely results in a fee being paid. Buying from an affiliate link isn't like having a 5% commission tacked on to a real estate deal. It doesn't result in your paying a penny more than you'd pay otherwise. Whether the reviewer is to be trusted is an entirely different issue, but the company is paying the fee and it's no different than the fee ECF receives from their sponsor's links. Nor, for that matter, is it any different than the amount any company has to add into their prices to cover the costs incurred by sending free merchandise to the reviewers we all trust to be impartial.

I'm amazed that folks believe there is truth to be found in all reviews .. since the dawn of advertising, these things have been salted ..

I agree with you but , it really says something about the integrity of the company that censors their reviews. Instead of trying to make their product better . Its not good business and Bad Vendors should be called out on it.
