Loving kevlar wicks

I've been using 400x400 mesh stainless steel wicks for a while with Phoenix rebuildables. But I'm loving this German made Kevlar wick. Taste is cleaner than silica and you can torch it to renew it!

Anyone else have experience and tips with Kevlar?

careful - from Dupont's website:

Burning NOMEX® and KEVLAR® produce hazardous gases similar to those from wool.

"These are mostly carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxides and small amounts of hydrogen cyanide, ammonia, aldehydes, aliphatic hydrocarbons and other toxic gases depending on conditions of burning."


I dont think i would use this for something i would inhale while wrapped in a red hot coil.

Did you mean ceramic? Kevlar doesn't sound right. Or did you mean that Nextel wick? Or maybe that awesome wick that comes with Kayfuns? Or do you mean that braided silica stuff, both of the last two being awesome but definitely silica AFAIK.

Kevlar is a plastic with a melting point around 500 °C (930 °F). That's pretty hot, but I think you would not be able to dry burn this. I also would not vape it ... huge health risk IMO.

Yeah I was really fascinated when I first read this but... now I'm quite a bit confused myself. The chest panties bit though... that Sir is awesome.

I was reading that kevlar wicks replaced asbestos wicks in the 1980's. They are made for things like tiki torches, and fire juggling, or spinning. I wouldn't trust them in any rebuildable.

I cannot find any info on the health of kevlar wicks. neither for or against using it and fumes that may or may not be released, so I'm not going to venture an opinion one way or another.

I use 3M Nextel ceramic wick. Never heard of Kevlar wicks.
