So, I own a Reo mini and a Reo Grand. My batteries are AW IMR 14500 600mah and AW IMR 18650 1600mah respectively. I have been building 2+ohm coils to some success. Today I decided to try my hand at some lower ohm coils. With the Grand+RM2 I'm running a 30awg kanthal 4 wrap @ .9ohms. With the Mini+RM2 I'm running a 30awg kanthal 5 wrap @ 1.1ohms. Am I in the safe range? According to what I've worked out with the ohm law calculator I should be okay..But I just wanted to be sure. Advice?

Thank you.

You're plenty safe with the Grand and right on the edge, but safe with the 14500 Mini. Keep in mind your multimeter may be reading ± 0.1Ω or more.

You don't say what diameter the coils are, but you will probably find better vapor and flavor, with more wraps of lower gauge number and resistance, thicker wire for a wider, similar resistance micro coil, with more wire to wick to juice contact.

That's what I thought..thanks for the reply. I've got some 28awg kanthal incoming so I'll be using that very soon. I checked the ohms on both my itaste svd and with multimeter multiple times and they gave me the same readings. .9 and 1.1. I'll probably rebuild the mini with an extra wrap to pull myself a little bit farther away from that safe/unsafe edge.

You're welcome to count them! :) This one is clocking in at .86ohm.

Take that 30 gauge and use two pieces of wire to wrap your coil. Keep them side by side while you wrap, don't overlap, and shoot for around 1 ohm. I find the dual coil much more pleasurable than a single coil. I use 30 gauge wire to wrap dual coils for my Grand.

I haven't done two strand or twisted Kanthal in a very long time, since I got the 30 ga, as opposed to 32 ga but....... I'm on at least week 6 with a 30 ga, ~1/16, ~1.5ohm with a couple of back overlaps, on workhorse Mini 2.0 that's used daily. I intentially back wrapped it to TEST. And it's continuing to vape great with a daily or two dry-burn and cotton wick change.

I'm not advocating back overlapped wraps. Just saying this 30 ga single strand is holding up great. Thicker or thinner wire or lower ohm (wire getting hotter) may not be as forgiving, though.

I pulse dry-burn, btw.

Gee thanks. LOL. humm~ 10?

Haha! I don't recall how many wraps it was when it was built. This coil is well into it's 3rd week with multiple dry burns and flavor changes. I pulled the cap off to count the wraps for you and thought to myself "damn, I can't see these things"! It looks more like 16-17 wraps to me. With a dual coil, you're basically running two higher ohm coils that combine to create one lower ohm coil. With the resistance on this coil reading .86ohm, each coil separately (each wire) should (roughly) be reading at about 1.72ohms.

This coil in the picture I posted is over 3 weeks old. It's been a champion for me! I use 26 or 28 awg to build my single coils, but this one has performed so well for me, I'll probably stick with the dual setups for a while (until boredom sets in).

for 1 ohm and below your batteries should be IMR (for safety) and at least 750 mah

note that there are MANY MANY battery brands out there that highly overstate the capacity of the battery (worse offenders appear to be the Ultra/TrustFires)

If you stick with AWs (not a fan but they are good, i just don't support their pricing), Panasonic, Sonys, MNKE and even EFEST you will be fine

My personal preference at the moment are Sony 30A, Panasonic CGR18650ch/ncr18650pd (grey / green), although I just ordered some new Panasonic 15Amps but they are not here yet

also, many people regard the EFest as a second class battery, but I have run those with my provari without problem and a single 18500 is giving me 6 hours of vaping with a kick 2 on top set at 15Watts

For the price they cost me (like $6 bucks each) they are proven a great value for regulated power
