So I've seen a couple of posts with a sig line that talks about improved lung function. Really? Switching to this will improve that? I don't have any problems with it - my job gives me a complete physical every year that includes lung function, and the little machine prints out my lungs' physical age (as compared to chronological age), and I usually wind up with the lungs of a late teens/early 20s person. I had bronchitis one year, and it said my lungs were 27. (I'm pushing 50 - hard.)

But anyway, while I have no problems with lung function, I can't hold notes as long as I used to when singing. It would be kind of cool if I got some of that back. Does this really help?

I don't have any actual tests to go off of, but I've been totally smoke-free for about a week now and already I've noticed that I can take deeper breaths (without coughing). Something I haven't been able to do for over 4 yrs. Last night I was laying down in bed and right before falling asleep I took this amazingly long clear deep breath. It kind of shocked me, as I haven't been able to lay down without wheezing and coughing for many years - let alone take a deep breath laying down.

I suppose it depends on how much and how long you smoked too. I smoked for almost 27 years, an average of 2 pks a day. Sometimes more, sometimes less. I was recently diagnosed with asthmatic bronchitis (which is why I quit smoking and took up e-cigs). I haven't used my asthma inhaler for about 3 days now - haven't needed it.

Take three deep breaths and then hold. As a smoker, I could barely make 30 seconds.
I can now triple that time. Pretty convincing to me.
And, I am very happy that the wheezing and coughing I experienced as a cigarette smoker is gone.
These things aren't imaginary nor wishful thinking.

It has been claimed for decades by health authorities that quitting cigarettes would lead to improved lung function after a time.
This has been proven to my satisfaction by my own case. :)

I've never gotten the cough. I always said I'd quit when that happened, but it's been nearly 30 years at 1 PAD of Marlboro Reds, and nothing.

But I've been getting more pumped up about this the more I've read. I've noticed for a while - several months - that cigarettes are just pretty darned nasty tasting. And I'm sick of the smell on my clothes and hands. And I was sick of overflowing ashtrays about 5 minutes after I lit my first cigarette. This is just one more line in the "pro" column.

Glad you came here ScottinSoCal...

You appear to have been blessed with not having your lung capacity deminished over time from smoking.
But in my opinion, it would only be a matter of time until it caught up with you.

For many, many of us....it found us and caught us.

But with the change over to vaping, we are starting to recapture some of what we lost.
So yes, for many, lung function is one of the major benefits along with many others.

I too can say that only after 35 days or so, I can breath better, walk further and cough less.
And that's only after 35 days....

Next year....a marathon for me... maybe....for Seniors??
Oh well, probably not going that far.

Congrats on you getting here and giving this some heavy thought.
And if you are saying that you don't like the smell of real cigs at this point,
Just WAIT till your smell and taste buds return!

Scottin,

I smoked for 30 yrs and never had the coughing or wheezing that other smokers did. I felt like my lungs were immune because I had no hacking cough:) But my lungs have hugely improved in the last 2 months in other ways! I don't get huffy and puffy anymore when I'm rushing around! And when I go to bed, I can breathe really well lying down now. Before, it felt like I had a weight on my chest that wouldn't let me breathe easy and that's all gone.

My lung function was always awesome on those blow machine testers too but when I had a chest Xray last yr, I had stage 2 emphysema:( The xray tech " My God, you have deep lungs! I need to readjust the machines to fit them in the picture" and I thought it was a good thing LOL! Like my lungs were "SuperMan" kinda lungs. My lungs were abnormally deep from the emphysema- they had expanded downwards to compensate for their lack of viability.

I never coughed or had bronchitis or phlegm. All I had was occasional huffy breathing with stage 2 (moderate) emphysema. My Dr wanted me to go on inhalers but I declined and now I don't need them! My breathing is all normal again. No more loud short breaths.

Good thing I ran across this thread. I was starting to think vaping did more harm to my lungs but then I realized I am starting to flem up because I have not touched a cig in about 6 days now. And I do recall this in the past when I tried quitting that I do flem up quite a bit after I gave up smoking. VAPE ON!

So we are just inhaling water vapor w/ nicotine? Has this been proven?

All I know is I vaped for two days and was already feeling better. The batteries and hit inconsistency made me order 2 "heavy duty" models due to arrive Wednesday. I said I would smoke until they arrive. Already just by smoking for 1/2 a day my lungs have that heavy watery feeling and the shortness of breath is back etc. For me it was DAY and NIGHT in only 2 days away from analogs. Cannot wait for the PV to arrive......

Yeah, I'm not looking forward to that. :p

I quit smoking for six months a few years ago and hacked up nasty brown stuff for a couple of weeks after I quit. I figure it's probably going to be the same thing this time, too.

There must be something to that as I am a 40 year smoker that has been diagnosed with COPD.
Although I haven't totally stopped the analogs I have noticed that when I stay on vaping I not only feel better, but also breath better.
I smoke 3 to 4 analogs a day, but that beats a pk a day.
I am hoping my new KR808D-1 will help with the program yo get me off those things forever.
Will check back later on to leave more results.

Doubt we are recovering quite as fully as someone who stops completely, so those signature banners might be a bit off.

I'm interested to get myself back to the gym and see if I can perform better. I never really got winded or felt short of breathe, but sometimes after my more intense workouts, I would stop early and literally feel like I was going to faint. Some days it was a battle just to stand up and go up the stairs to the parking lot instead of sitting in the locker room trying to recover. This would only happen if I was smoking the days before, or sometimes stupidly the day of, my visits to the gym. So hopefully when I start going again I don't come so close to dying... or maybe I'll find out that vaping still has a less than stellar effect.
