Im still trying to learn the best way to inhale on an ecig for the most vapor and best nic effect for me personally and I must admit I dont have it down just yet.... but on analogs i always did a mouth hit, followed by a little gasp of extra air, and then breathed into the lungs. thats what Ive been trying to do with my ecig, but I need to modify it if i want the best vapor output when i exhale. Ive found that with anything Ive smoked, including ecigs, direct lung hits KILL me, hurt my throat, make me cough, UHG! hate it. also not a fan of exhaling thru my nose. maybe my juice is just too harsh for it? hoping to play around with diff juices and tanks and such till i can master this.

I notice that people have been giving advice to use mouth inhaling instead of g inhaling. For me I was always a mouth inhaler and I didn't even know lung inhaling was an option. Even when I smoked cigs I would draw the smoke into my mouth first before inhaling. I always thought this was the norm, but apparently the majority of people do lung inhales when smoking cigs. So I was wondering what was your inhaling method when smoking cigs and has it changed since you started vaping?

I have always been a mouth to lung inhaler until I started vaping. I feel with vaping a straight lung inhale gibes me better flavor and amount of vapor but I will do both depending on the situation. If I want a quick hit when I'm needing a CIG I will mouth inhale but if I'm just hanging out and am looking for pure flavor the lung hit always hits the spot.

I used to do the lung inhale with cigarettes, but after 2+ years vaping if find it practically impossible to do now. Lol. Seriously, I just tried about 10 times, and my brain doesn't want to let my body do it. Okay, I finally got one, and the flavor is definitely less than a mouth inhale.

A contractor came to my house a few months ago to give an estimate on redoing our guest bathroom, he was a smoker and was interested in my ecig (provari, he'd never seen one 'that big'). I got a tip and let him try. He started inhaling as I was explaining mouth vs. lung and took this 10 second monster toke straight to his lungs. He nearly fell off the chair, with tears rolling out of his eyes. I felt terrible. I hope I didn't ruin him on ecigs forever.

I thought drawing into the mouth then inhaling was the 'normal' way to do it? The only other method I've noticed was some old man at the pub (pre smoking ban) who used to hold his ciggie to his mouth the whole time while breathing in and out. He'd spark up then for 5mins there would just be a cloud of smoke round his face until he finished :D

When I started smoking, mouth inhaling was the cool way to do it because you could do that 'trick' where let the mass of smoke slightly escape your mouth before breathing in. I guess we all keep the method that feels comfortable.

I once tried what I think was lung inhaling with a shisha pipe because I wanted to try to get more smoke in my mouth - big mistake!

We have an authoritative text about the mouth/lung issue in our Library, written by rolygate a couple of years ago.

A few selected excerpts:

E-Cigarette vapor is not drawn directly into the lungs, as many smokers do with a tobacco cigarette. The lungs do not 'suck' on the ecig; a direct inhale is not used. Instead, the vapor is first drawn into the mouth, using the cheeks to create a vacuum, then inhaled if desired.

The vapor doesn't have to be inhaled though, and an ecig can be used like a cigar, with the vapor only taken into the mouth. Nicotine will still be delivered - and probably better than if an attempt is made to inhale the vapor directly into the lungs.

The droplet size in vapor is ten times the particulate size in smoke (10 microns vs 1 micron). This means that cigarette smoke penetrates far more deeply into the lungs, travelling deep into the smallest passageways. Vapor cannot go anywhere near as deep, and this means that nicotine is not available so easily from the lungs, and is obtained more slowly.

You can/should read the whole text here: Inhalation technique with an e-cigarette.
