Hey guys, I've been vaping for a little over two months and I noticed recently that I'm having some lung irritation problems. after about 10 minutes of vaping I cough and it has a distinct "wet?" feel to it, like congestion almost. . . goes away as soon as I stop vaping. Other than this, my lungs feel GREAT since I stopped smoking, I seem to have better lung capacity and don't get winded as easily. I smoked for a long time, but never got the "smoker's cough" and the only time I had feelings like this was smoking analogs while sick. . .

I vape the same way I smoked, on my way to work, 3 fifteen minute breaks, on my way home, and then about 10-15 minutes worth every two hours. . .

Does anybody else have or had this problem, if so, what can you do to fix it? Or is it just my body adjusting to the vapor instead of cigarettes? I don't think that's a LOT of vaping, so I don't think it's that I'm doing too much...

If it makes any difference I'm using 50/50 juices, with a kangertech EVOD2 tank, 1.8 ohm atomizer heads, and an E-Go C Twist VV (usually about 3.8v).

Maybe you're getting sick?
I'm not a doctor or medical professional so I'm not going to try to diagnose the problem but I will suggest cleaning out your tank, swapping your coil out for a new one and trying a higher VG juice with lower nic. You might be having an allergy to the PG or the nic level in your current juice is causing some irritation. I know when I first started vaping I was using 24mg which was fine for a while but after a bit it started to irritate my throat and I started coughing a good bit so I switched to a higher VG juice with 18mg and it went away.

Hahaha, That was my first thought too. Maybe I'm getting sick. I guess I should have clarified, this has been an issue for about two weeks now, and I am most definitely not sick. :D And my last visit to the doctor and she responded that she's not "happy" about me sticking with the nicotine for now, BUT my lungs are much clearer then when I was smoking.

Is your Dr also not happy if you drink coffee? Sorry for the OT. But it sounds like your DR is misinformed and confusing nicotine from vaping with nicotine from smoking.
That would be a problem for me. I wonder how readily she would have given you a script for chantix or suggested some other type of replacement?

Anyhow back to topic.... What nic strength are you using?

Amraan, she's actually very unhappy I drink coffee and I'm on the path to cutting both nicotine and caffeine as they are stimulants and I suffer from anxiety attacks, and we're trying to deal with it by first fixing "environmental" and diet issues. She's actually the one who recommended vaping as a way to slowly cut back my nicotine because she was concerned about the use of Chantix, and she "off the record" really believed that I'd have better luck reducing to a 0mg juice. (after about 500 attempts to quit smoking cold turkey, on the patch, with the gum ect) I think she just assumed it was going to be a faster transition than it has been. I've been cutting my nic each month (used 24 for a week, dropped to 18 for a month, then dropped to 12 which is what I use now, looking at trying 6 within the next few weeks).

Maybe it's just time to drop the pg and nic levels.

I would recommend you get a regulated mod like the Sigelei 30 or Istick 30 along with Subtank Mini. You can easily reduce your nicotine with a stronger device and sub ohm vaping. Also you will want higher VG juice with lower Nicotine and you won't notice a difference. I just started sub ohming after 2 years on the same VV/VW devices that I usually used around 8 watts. I was still using 12 mg nicotine, but just had to make some up at 6mg as the throat hit from sub ohm is strong. It may not be for you and if not you can still lower the watts and put on the 1.2 ohm coil. You may also want to try some different juices. I tried a juice from one company that I loved but something in that juice was making me have some of the same symptoms as you. I had to give up that juice. Check out your local vape shops for a tasting bar to find something new that you like. Good luck

You too huh? Yep, I have dealt with anxiety issues (panic attacks) every since I was a young kid...... They are horrible for sure... Hope you get some help with that...... I just take daily amounts of drugs that they give me ( tranquilizers ) and one day I want to be able to stop those gawd awful things as well..........

Concerning your coughing issues, I have never had any of those from vaping (knock on wood) but what it has caused with me on occasion is for me to cough up phlegm from time to time throughout the day. This is something that never happened to me before vaping and I have a "suspicion" that it is related to the heavy amounts of VG that I use in my mixes.

How long since you quit? I know that when I quit smoking analogs, I went through a period of time (maybe 2 months, starting about 2 weeks after I quit) where my lungs were "cleaning out". I was coughing frequently and quite productively. My doctor told me that this is normal. When you smoke, your lungs lose some of their abilities to get rid of mucus and other junk. Quit smoking, and they go back to doing their job.

I quit smoking quite a few years ago but in order to do it I took up the nasty habit of chewing tobacco. I smoked for 35+ years. Then I chewed for about 5 years before discovering vaping, and now I am a vaping addict :) You are correct as I coughed up a little bit when I quit 5 years ago........... It's sort of like that now for me but I don't cough up near as much as when I quit smoking. I only cough up a little from time to time and it started when I started vaping and so I assume it is related to vaping. I mix my own juices and I use very high amounts of VG, which I think is responsible. Just like with smoking, I think my body is trying to get rid of the excess VG or something. But really, it is no problem and I barely notice it.

    Thank you for explaining!!
I am sorry if I over stepped what I should have said.

Just a side personal note.. I know they say nicotine is a stimulant.. But for me without it I am much more edgy.

Same here ............ has a calming effect for me.......... Except, it does seem to have a somewhat of a stimulant effect if I get way too much into my system........Heart racing, slight headache and those types of things. But normally it relaxes me.

I've been vaping for over 2 years now, after smoking for over 45 years. Although I waited for it, I never coughed anything up. But last month, I injured my back (again) and made 3 trips to a chiropractor. While I was face down on the table with my head in that little ditch that's covered with paper, I noticed the paper was WET under my nose--wet to the point it tore. I thought my nose must be dripping, but it wasn't--it was just moisture from my breath.

I've been to chiropractors before (when I still smoked), but I never saw the paper get wet before. Either vaping causes more moisture, OR the moisture is supposed to be there, but smoking dries out the lungs. I don't know, but that's my experience.

hmmm that is interesting. Good point about lungs getting dried out.
