My experience..

I quit after 30 years of smoking (chantix), within 2 weeks cough gone, never got worse while it was going away..

about the 6 wk mark I was going to lose my quit, it as rough..someone gave me nicotrol in halers, that held me off..used those for over 3 years.

Someone introduced me to Blus, those were much more satisfying that nicotrol in halers..used those for almost a year no problem.

Then I found this forum, almost as soon as I bumped up to 510 & ego..OMG..my hack is back as strong as it was when I smoked. I have some days better than others, but it's def there...I'm so bummed about it too. Waiting for some all PG & all VG juices to come in to test that out & see if those are my issues. But no, my coughing has nothing to do with healing from not smoking...I never did that when I just plain quit either.

I smoked analogs for 20 years and I coughed for probably 2-3 weeks after. It went away. Like many others here, I don't think it had anything to do with vaping, because I'm still using the exact same flavor and strength as the day I started, and no problems. (I only found out a few days ago that there's a whole world of options and flavors out there.) That's my :2c: :D

Is hacking and coughing normal for after you quit analog smoking?

I can tell you that after I quit analog smoking , my lungs started to undo all of the abuse I put them through. Hacking and coughing is putting it very mildly. Then it just stopped, and since then I have gained back some ability to actually inhale, and am able to do quite a bit more, before I start to get shortness of breath. I didn't expect to heal at all, and would have settled for not getting worse when I quit analogs as they really were killing me. The truth is I actually do feel much better today, than I did at that point in time. Hang in there and I hope you feel better soon.

It's always bothered me a bit that after 15 years of smoking and the daily lung cookies I'd cough up that I have never coughed anything up since I started vaping. I quit coughing stuff up the day I started vaping. The rattling noise I used to have in my lungs when I laid down was gone within 2 days of vaping. The squeaky sound my lungs would make when I took a big breath was gone within a day or so of when I started vaping.

I have coughed up nothing since I started vaping, even though I coughed up something every day as a smoker.

I do plan to ask my doc about this next time I go in for a physical, but right now I feel pretty darn good. I don't huff and puff going up a flight of stairs, no wheezing, etc... Perhaps some people don't cough up as much crud as others once they quit smoking. I really don't know the answer, but I will ask my doc because I'm curious about the whole lung junk issue.

Lets start with introductions being that i'm new. Hi! i'm Roy. I've been vaping for 3 days now and loving it so far. I've started out with a disposable 510 and just made the purchase of an up graded battery. I've been smoking analog cigs for 12 years and these past three days have been the first three days i've gone with out having an analog cig since. On to my question/point...... Since i've started vaping i've been coughing up lung junk, thick mucus. Is this common for vaping? i've looked around a bit and so far i've not seen or heard of any one having this issue when switching from analog to vapor. So i figured i'd ask the masses. I never had much of a lung junk problem with analogs and i'm hoping its just due to the fact that i'm starting out and that this mucus issues clears up in time. looking forward to hearing back.

That's your lungs clearing out the years of tobacco smoking. You should actually feel better than ever in a week or so. I've been vaping for about 8 months and forgot how good a fresh breath with clear lungs felt. Hang in there!

It bothered me too. I smoked for 25 years and never hacked up anything (during my smoking years or after I started vaping or even the few times I quit cold turkey). It makes me wonder if it's all still in there.... lurking......

I asked my doctor Wednesday how long he thought it would take before I started tossing lung biscuits. He said hopefully I never would. I gave him an odd look and he laughed and said not everyone has that after stopping smoking. He said mostly it depends on how the cig smoker smoked (technique) and how much mucous a person normally produces. He said when cilia action returns to full force, a lot of people will just notice more that they are swallowing what feels like drainage and that is actually the lung stuff coming back up through the bronchials. He says a lot also depends on the quality cigarettes that were smoked.

I smoked 43 years and the first time I vaped coughing my head off the first few hours.I lowered the nic level the next time
started with 24 mg and lowered to 11mg.I could handle that. Now after 6 months I bumped up to 18 for a month.. Now 1 year
later I am up to 36 and satified with that...I mix in 70pg and 30 vg,,Thats my standard now..Cannot handle 100% pg make my throat sore.I dont wheeze and gurgling sounds any more...This is the first winter I havent had a servre chest cold in 20 years..

I did notice awhile back that when I was refilling my carts the vapor off the ejuice made me sneeze and a runny nose.
Of course I am working with 36mg nic level....I wash my hands off to because getting 36mg through the skin Is no fun...

Interesting. I have had what feels like a stuffy throat, just no desire to cough.

As far as quality....I was a cheap smoker. Figured if I was going to get cancer, no way in hell was I paying top dollar for it. ;)
I smoked 1-2 packs of GPC silvers per day. My friend and I used to joke that GPCs were actually called 'God's Perfect Cigarette'.
At $6 per pack, they were as cheap as you could get around here.

Here's the listed ingredients for GPCs and all RJ Reynolds produced cigarettes. Compared to other brands, GPCs didn't have a ton of additives. Actually, I still vape the VG, PG, water, and cocoa flavorings. I leave out the tobacco, nicotine, syrup, wood shavings, and other artificial flavorings.

Look up your old cig brand for ingredients. I have found it helps me choose vaping flavors that I like.
