I have lots of questions about the lungs and how they work. Since some of the members here are scientists, I figured that ECF would be the right forum to ask!

First question: Why does exhaled breath have a sweet smell to it? I thought that carbon dioxide was odorless?

Ive never noticed that? You said your not talking about vaping right? Your right Co2 is odorless. Provide some more information

Sorry to repost well I looked up that and the only thing I could find is a sweet fruity smell which could be acetone caused by diabetes if you don't have diabetes I wouldn't be too worried about it

Are you a diabetic? Or are you on a no carb diet? The breakdown of fats instead of sugars for energy, produce ketones. When exhaled, these ketones have a fruity smell.
This could be unrelated to your case though.

I wasn't talking about me lol, I can't smell my own breath. I was talking about other people.

In all of my boyfriends the breath coming out of their nose has a sweet aroma to it. I like to push noses together and suck it up lol.

None of them have diabetes. I once had a girlfriend with diabetes, and the breath coming out of her nose smelled disgusting- like fruity dog biscuits!

Perhaps its hormones I'm smelling? (No idea, just a guess)

sounds like you gots a very sensitive nose, and can pickup on some things...I know with people who drink alot, they have a certain "smell" to their breaths, more so than somone who went out on a bender the night before. I knew a few alcoholics growin up and can smell one out usually...
