Could a decrease in vapor production also be caused by not exhaling as much? I've held vapor in my lungs for pretty long and noticed less vapor being exhaled while still feeling it in my lungs. What if you never exhale? Would all the vapor be absorbed and is that bad if I did that?
Exhaling less = more absorption. Since your lungs aren't really meant to be filled with fluid (or the other particulates), it definitely isn't better for you to hold it in.

I've read somewhere on here that holding in the vapor really doesn't do anything for you. The nicotine is almost instantly absorbed in the mouth / throat and what little is left is absorbed in the lungs. I can't remember exactly where it was that I read this (If I could I'd post it) but it makes sense to me :D

By holding in the vapor longer there is no more nicotine absorbed to put it simply.
