You lost me at that part, cut the top off of what, where? I would like to learn more of this.
I just cut the end off that has the small hole, making it just a tube. Threw away the cart and drip right down the tube. Two drops gives a nice amount, about equal to an anolog and clouds of vapor. I use it as my main vape now, my poor old 510's only get used when she gets to hot. I alternate usually between it and my 4081 box mod, the 401 being a little better as I can feel the heat in the vapor more.

I have a couple of dead 510 attys if anyone wants to trade for a couple of dead 401's. They make excellent connectors for each other on mods.

My M40x attys were lasting 2 months of heavy use until I got the new JC juice. I started having issues and began some maintenance - well I found that was a big mistake. I lost 5 attys in a short time. I no longer use JC or do any maintenance and haven't lost any again for the past 2 months. I rotate mine between battery and PT. I lost 3 510 attys during the same time as well, all using a PT (the standard in line battery type).

My m401 was vaping like a champ for about a week. That's when i learned not to keep battery and atty together or the movement will cause the very sensitive battery to burn the crap out of your atty. Luckily I have my 510 which as much as I try will not die!
Yeah, it'll just take all the taste from your juice instead.

I've had 401 atties last up to 3 - 4 months so far. Much better than my 1 month Titans.

A month after my first post and the same atty is still going strong, so at least two months of use with no end in sight. I use it in a mod so that may contribute to the long life as it is a manual switch. I also use it all day, every day and have put my 510's away because they are just not as good. I do carry another 4081 box mod in case the battery dies in my 401 while I am at work.

Mine is 2 months in, i just gave it a good bath&rinse to try and get rid of some juice i dislike (no luck dammit o_O there still is that faint scent) and it's vapin like a champ. Just for reference, I vape slightly more than 2ml a day, maybe 2 and a half.

I'm a newbie and have not heard anything about this:

Would it be better (easier, more feasible) to have 1 atty for each e-liquid one uses?

Anyone?:)

:)

Sort of depends on how many types of liquid you use. It would work well to have one atty for tobacco flavors, one for mint/menthol flavors, another for fruit flavors. You might also dedicate one for spice flavors; clove and cinnamon stay in an atty for a long time.

I vape tobacco-based liquids nearly 100% of the time, so I get along fine with having only one atty in service at a time. I don't even use different carts when changing from say, Marlboro to Flue Cured. Blending flavors in the carts helps to keep the taste interesting.

Got a few 401 attys a while back. I didn't get any batts as I had a few dead 510's to use as connectors for box mods. Building the mod box I found out a few things, I first tried to seal the 510 connector so juice would not get into the box. It had no draw at all, I had to undo the seal on the 510 and re attach the atty wire inside so it would draw. Afterwards it is more like a real smoke then any other atty I have. So for those of you with hard draw, look at the battery not the atty. It seems to draw all the air through the end hole and not the sides. After a few weeks, it has not let a single drop through to the box mod.

At first I used the carts, what a waste. I found it hard to beleive that anyone would want a 401. I cut off the top and threw away the cart and wow, a few drips and this thing is better then my 510 mods(with carts), at least as good as my 4081 mods carts and not. You guys should really trade your dead attys for 510 dead attys and build some box mods, this thing is awesome.

I voted for one moth cause that's how long I have had this mod but it shows no signs of dying yet.

the air flows via the slots through the hole in the battery then down through the attie's center hole

I have killed 2 atties dead (slipped off of cart and fell on the wick) I find that they start to be less effective after 1 - 3 months. I have never had one die via natural causes, they just get weeker over time. Batteries I have had 3 401 size die and two 402 ones go, Nead to buy a new 402 as my last one is only living for 30 min.

Check out the new silver ones from Intellicig, they're ace!

Totaly agree they look the part APART from the red LED, I was going to send them a wee E-Mail asking them to source White or Purple ones for the silver Battery.

By the way as you know in the summer I invested heavily in all things 510 this was probably because my 401 stock was getting old. I was blowen away with the 510 performance (when it worked), Now with a new 401 attie I am amazed at the hit off these, I forgot how good they were.

Sludge keep your old 510 atties they make great 401 - 510 manual battery converters.
Just solder the end bit of a 401 battery (I used that pass though you got me) to the end of the 510 attie and hey presto a "mega" 401 manual

3 months experience with M401:

Atomizer life on batteries only: 24, 21, and 29 days - average 25 days till death. Current atty on batteries has been going 19 days so far. Vapor quality usually drops off in 10-14 days. Cleaning w/alcohol helps that a little.

Atomizer life on passthrough: 13, 8, 8, 7, 14 days - average 10 days till death. And that's with using it only half time (used separate atty on batteries the other half). No obvious pattern whether cleaning lengthens or shortens life, except if you try the hot burn cleaning method on the passthrough, which can quickly fry the atomizer.

Passthrough eats up cartridge liquid in a big hurry, with a lot of it wasted condensing inside the cartridge. Lots of great vapor while it lasts though. If you puff too much to use the last bits of liquid in the cart, you are likely to fry the atomizer, so I try not to let it dry out. (See info about "hot burn", above.) My conclusion: M401 passthrough provides a bit too much power...
Have you ever checked your voltage? The 'official' 401 PT puts out a constant 3.4V. My 2 auto batts when fully charged are at about 2.9V.

First 3 i consider them dead :( am up to my 4th and 5th is packed away.. And 4 on order

Each ones went tru hell after i started to taste the burnt blunts.

1st: Clogged/Boiled/Dry Burns
Worked after a while started to get that taste again so i fired up second atty.

2nd: Weak Draws/Boiled/Dry Burns (Still Works)
But after gettign a real taste of how liquids should be i hated this one

3rd: Good Draws until i deicde to mess with the coil trying to avoid the burnt and so happen i kinda haywired it.. The coil is like all over the place in the atty but intact.. Just not a coil anymore more liek a zigzag.

So i don't get anything much from that one.

Btw this all happen within a month and a half lolz...
