On the subject of the OP and the relentless oil flavor that seemingly can't be removed, try removing the center pin. it screws into the +block on the deck. It has a cross-drilled hole for airflow and the inner wall of the base as well as the center pin can be a real PITA to get the oil out of.
As an added bonus tip: Try to orient the center pin's cross-hole perpendicular to the base's airhole when re-installing to prevent whistle. This can be done by noting the position of the cross-hole in relation to the hash mark in the positive contact.
