I should add, my fiance is also on his first wick and coil and we got them at the same time, so not a fluke.

That's awesome, it sounds like barring a disaster I won't even need to worry about rebuilding for quite a while. 4 months is 2x as long as I've been vaping to begin with.
I do this since I hate the taste of new wick. I'll vape the wick till it crumbles before I'll make a new one.
maybe thats the taste that i hated on my AB and the orion. It was metallic and burnty
I just suck up whatever like 1/4 ml of nasty juice is left in the bottom and put the new juice in, takes a couple puffs to switch to the new flavor. Pluid takes a bit longer, of course. When I want it really clean I put high proof vodka in it, swish it around, and syringe it out.. super easy.
Could be new wick taste or a short...
For me new wick has a metalic aftertaste.
It goes away after awhile but those 1-2 days of ugh makes me want to slam my head into a wall.
If I have a horrible flavor on the wick, I just burn everything coil and wick and just reinstall.

I tried 6 coils and 2 of them popped. the other 4 had this taste and next to no vapor. The first drag after letting it sit for 5 minutes had flavor, but little vapor. then hitting it again right away gave the nasty taste.
were my coils not tight enough? I did see the top end of the wire that connected to the positive post glow, not the coil but the wire from the last coil to the + post.
Yeah, that's definitely a short, but yeah. would need to see pics to help more.
Are you hitting the top cap by anychance? That wick looks long.

I had a terrible time getting the Orion right. Finally sold it.
It'll probably go fine for you. This was ages ago (in genesis time). I was a relative noob. That said, nothing (I've had a DID, a Line, an Orion, 3 Zens, and the iHybrid) went as smooth as the Zens and the iHy., and nothing harder than the Orion.
I'll find out how much easier the iHy is to setup soon enough.

Make sure the bottom of the wire coming out of the negative post isn't touching to steel, it should come up at about 45 degrees to the wick. Hard to tell in the pic if it's touching or not, so check. The rest of the coils look fine, make sure the wick isn't touching the bottom of the tank or the top cap, it does look to be sticking up kinda far, clip it just slightly lower than the positive post. Then put some juice on it and burn it til it's dry.. see if any of the coils are glowing brighter than the others, if there is nudge it a bit with a toothpick and repeat the process until they all glow evenly.
