Seems there was a dramatic increase in inspections of shipments going to Canada recently. We totally understand but our cart doesn't. We need to be able to restrict certain products from shipping to Canada or limit the type of shipping.
We got a letter from Fedex stating that our shipments were being held or rejected by health canada/customs.. To plug the bleeding until we can find out more, the easiest fix was to stop accepting orders from Canada until a resolution is found. We don't want it to be a permanent measure by any means.
What happens when a package gets rejected by Canada customs if sent via Fedex:
1) Fedex send us an overnight letter with a tracking number asking us to call and charges our account $12
2) We call and find out why, typically something Health Canada doesn't like, and have an option of having the package destroyed ($70) or shipped back ($30). We choose ship back usually.
3) Customer starts logging tickets about slow shipping or delays or customs and yelps about bad customer service.
4) We either try and re-ship or refund based on customers choice.
5) If a re-ship we eat the cost of re-ship +$12+$30
6) if we refund, then we eat the orignal shipping cost+$12+30
If by USPS:
1) The package goes missing
2) We reship to an unhappy customer at our expense.
Seems with certain items be problematic, we need to figure out a way in our cart to not allow restricted items from being added to the cart. For now a quick shut-off until a resolution is found was the fix, sorry but had to do it.
I absolutely love the fedex service to canada though and would hate to offer usps only again.
Bottom line is we're looking for a solution..
