White Variable Volt Box Mod Kit

Anyone ever built this kit? How did you like it? Did it work good? Is this considered stacking batteries? Are there any NiMh batteries that will work with this instead of lithium?

I fly remote control heli's and I have a great deal of experience with lithium batteries...to vape with them seems like too much of a PIA for me, I don't want to have to always be aware of what batteries go together and what their voltage is. I will likely fail and fry my face off! So an inexpensive VV with good range and carefree batteries is what I am looking for. I can solder anything and putting circuit boards together is not an issue. I am not interested in the eGo twist either, I am sure it is good but I have VV eGo style batteries already and they have their place. I just want to give this 5-6v vaping a try and $18 seems like a good entry point.

Thank you,

Ron -

The Madvapes VV boxmod kit is designed to work with 2 x 3.7v Li-ion cells in series for 7.4 volts. It would probably work using NiMh cells if you put enough in series to get above that point. The box only has 2 battery slots open since one of the 3 is taken up with the electronics. You'd have to figure out a way to get your additional batteries attached to it. They do sell the electronics separately as a VV kit, Variable Voltage Regulator Board Kit Rev 2. You'd just have to add a switch, connector, and a box that will fit.

The MV VV Kit is a decent kit, great for people to get their feet wet. It uses a linear regulator which isn't very efficient.

Since you're experienced with soldering and circuits I'd advise looking up the Evercool or Easy OKR builds. The parts won't run you much more than the MV Kit and they use more efficient switching regulators.

Most builds use Li-ion due to the higher voltage output per battery. If you don't want to use them you can get IMR which aren't as volatile in the event something happens.

If you really want to use NiMh you're going to need more of them to either power a regulator or get the voltage high enough for a decent vape. The Puck build uses 4 NiMh batteries if you want to check it out.

4.8 Volt NiMH Battery Cell

**UPDATE** as far as the box, I only intended to use the electronics from this kit...possible changing out lesser parts. The box was going in the trash from jump street lol...

So if these are 4.8v then 2 of these bad boys would do the trick?

Thanks for the replies,

Ron -
