Does standing outside with a shotgun matter much? I figure if he drives by without stopping, I can make him stop. Is this a good tactic or what!

Just be careful that he doesn't start avoiding your mailbox completely. Mail carriers are scary little beings. They might put you on their list to have you appear at their headquarters and retrieve your own mail. Stalking is a much better thing to do than the outright approach.

I take off work when I expect the postman to be near my house. Then I chase him done (U-Turns and everything) and hit him up for my package. Now that's excited! He doesn't usually seem to have a problem with it.
