Since I got over my conscious I thought I would share my technique for building your own SG-1 type hybrid kit for the sigelei #19, #13, and #8. It is very simple and can be done with nothing more than a pair of pliers and dremel with cutting disk or a hand saw. My computer is still out of order so forgive me if pictures are out of order.First I want to make it clear that you will be sacrificing the top cap to one of these mods. Hopefully you purchased the 19b cap like I did and have the stock #19 collecting dust. All these top caps have a really deep drip well that comes in really handy if you choose not to go the true hybrid route. By that I mean you will still have a center pin between the battery and atomizer. The first and really only thing you really need to do if you don't mind a center pin is to use your pliers and clamp down on the top and bottom of the 510 connection, make sure you removed the center pin, and use your dremel cutting disk to cut right above the top thread on the outside of the cap. If you let the lip of the cap guide you it will come out nice and straight. Don't cut through the 510 connection. The well is deeper than the threads so the outer ring will come right off after cutting all the way around. That's pretty much it. Depending on the length of your battery you may have to shorten your center pin or take a little off the 510 connection but with the connection now pointing down and putting the pin into that you can have any atty sit completely flush with your device. It's that simple and if for some reason you want to go true hybrid then remove the 510 connection leaving you with a flat disk. The 510 of your atty will stick all the way out and you will have to use washers just like the real SG-1 so the negative connection of the atty doesn't make contact with the positive of the battery. What works for me is cutting down a rubber condom from a carto to a length twice as long as the exposed connection. I then cut four slits, one on each side, half way down and poke a hole in the center of the bottom of the condom big enough to get the atty center pin through . When you slide it on the connection it will spread out and that half will be flat with the base of the adapter. If you have washers take the tightest thinnest one you have and slide that over the condom to prevent it from slipping. There are plenty other ways to cover up the exposed negative connection but that's what I had lying around and it worked well. The only downside to going the true hybrid route is the need for a battery spacer in some devices in some batterycconfigurations like the real SG-1.. I have tried bothways and ddon't notice any performance difference so I prefer the first easier way since I don't need spacers and can get the hybrid look with every single atty with a 510 connection. In the #19 you may have to shorten the 510 connection on the adapter to allow the mod to be screwed down all the way with an 18350. I would recommend to take the extra time to shorten that and the pin. I would also cut everything below the threads of the white delrin around the center pin off to cut the size down a bit. Battery sizes are different so find what works best for your setup. 19cap side.jpg19cap cut.jpgStandard hybrid.jpgZen hybrid.jpgSG-free.jpg

If you are going the true hybrid route and are removing the rest of the 510 connection you will have the 510 connector of the atty sticking all the way through the disk. You want to cover the threaded part sticking through making sure it won't make contact with the battery. That is what I put the condom over. If you do not have a way to securely hold that on do not attempt it and just go for the hybrid look. If any of that threaded part, the negative, makes contact with the battery it will cause a hard short. It can be dangerous so please be careful and don't screw it on the battery until you are 100% certain you have the entire negative covered and there is no chance it will come off.

Yeah, I had to shorten that stuff quite a bit to make it manageable in 18650. I also did some serious rework to the switch so that saved me some room too. The only thing I have heard that had success taking apart the glued switches involved cutting a slit in the magnet to fit a screw driver in and taking pliers to the button with a lot of brute force. That sounds real risky to me though. Not to mention possibly marking up the button pretty bad.

I can't believe this thread hasn't gotten more love!

I got pretty fed up waiting for my Nzonic head to arrive so I figured I might as well destroy my original while I wait. Cutting the the head off the threads was the easy part, the hard part was sizing up the center pin (I'm using a brass screw) and delrin to the proper size without destroying the threads.

I'm done and I can say that it was worth it. On an added note - it actually shortens the mod by almost a half inch, which is why I chose this over sanding down the top to fit it flush.

Yes, I know the RSST is not polished... Now I have something else to do...
