So, I'm going to try out DIY, and up to this point I have not tried any yet. I got a plan set out of how I want to do it, but would like a question answered to help me.

I want to make a base liquid in a big bottle of my pg/vg/nic mix. I want it to be at a nic level to where when I add my flavoring, the end product will be right about the nic level I want the final product. I know if I make the base 6mg, the flavoring would drop it down.

What nic level should I make bases for 6, 12, and 18mg?

Better yet, so I know for future reference, what's the math formula for it? I'll be mixing at around 20% flavoring.

My advice is to get a good e-juice calculator (like E-juice-Me-Up) and let it do the math for you... Each juice is going to vary depending on the specific number and amount of flavoring and other additives you add to the juice...

I started off like you're thinking of doing - general nic base - but, after nearly a year of DIY, have went to mixing with nic-base at 100mg and mixing each juice individually based on the projected nic level desired in each juice... Flavor has improved significantly...

PS: I still vape at between 18-24mg

Here's what I suggest:
Use one of the juice calculators. I like to use an on-line version//e-Liquid Calculator :: New recipe// but there are downloadable versions, as well.
Now, create a recipe with your target levels, including the flavor percentages you would like to use, say...15%

Now mix a batch, without the flavoring added.

when you want to add a flavor, add the base to a smaller bottle, and add 15% flavoring (or whatever your target flavor was).

Let's say you think the flavor is too strong, add a little more base liquid, if you want to add more flavor, add a few drops. This will not change your nic levels or PG/VG levels noticeably.

If you mix a base for a flavor allocation of 15% at a target nicotine of say 12mg, if your flavor drops to 10% your Nic is at 12.6. If it goes up to 20% flavoring, your Nic is at 11.4mg.
I am thinking of that for quick recipe development as it is a tolerable range of variance.
If you create a "Keeper" Recipe, you can begin fine tuning by mixing from scratch to finalize it.

Mathematically, if you want to skip the calculator...you are asking:

80% of what base number is a 6% blend
0.8 times x equals 0.06
0.8x=0.06 (now divide both sides by 0.8)
x = 0.075, which is 7.5%

So to get a 6% final mix, assuming you'll use 80% base plus 20% flavoring, you need a 7.5% strength "big bottle".

Likewise to make 12% mixes:
0.8x = 0.12 (now divide both sides by 0.8)
x=0.15
So to get a 12% final strength using 80% base plus 20% flavor, make a 15% strength "big bottle".

To simplify the math, just divide your desired finished percentage by the percentage of "big bottle" base you will use. Like this:
0.18 divided by 0.8 = 0.225
So to get 18% final strength when mixing 80% base (20% flavor), make a 22.5% strength "big bottle".
