Was it something I said?
Yeah, I think there is no possible way that the slight bit of smell from some flavors is worse than the stench attached to a smoker's clothes, hair, breath and body. Since you're still smoking, it's not yet an either or, but pitch that idea to her and see what she thinks. For a transition period, she gets to smell your smoky self and slight bit of vapor, but soon it will just be the yummy vapor smells and no stinkies. Does she really want to keep kissing and sleeping with an ashtray, or would she rather get the occasional waft of chocolate, caramel or coffee? Also keep in mind that the slight aroma of vaping doesn't stick around and linger, it's only smellable right there right then. All those things people try to do to smoke indoors that don't work will with vaping. Vape in another room, at the kitchen hood, bathroom with fan, etc. The smell of smoking will overpower that stuff, but with vapor she won't catch even the slightest (yummy) wiff.

If that doesn't work, ban her from perfume (or patchouli oil if she's the hippie type), scented hair products, deodorant, flavored toothpaste, coffee, candy, baking, fresh fruit and pooping. All much stronger smells than vapor. She'll come around soon enough! All though some scents are just offensive to some people, she may end up asking you not to vape a flavor or two around her, and if you make it that far I would suggest you capitulate.

I think the chain vaping thing is something to consider. My life is such that I can chain vape, not going more than 1.5 hours here and there without. Some people can't and will likely need higher nicotine. I was a longtime 20-30 filterless roll-yer-own smoker and had no trouble at 16mg with an occasional 24mg in the am or before a vape free period. Keep in mind though that you've tried 6mg, higher nicotine = stronger throat hit. At first I didn't like 24mg throat hit, it is stronger than a cigarette. It still makes me hiccup in the morning, but I found that I actually like it, the throat hit is not irritating in the way that smoking too much or too strong is, you feel it and it's gone.

Nicotine absorption is also something to keep in mind. Vaping doesn't kick in immediately like stinkies do. I got over my cravings by watching the clock. I didn't tell myself I wouldn't smoke, just that I would chain vape for 10 minutes first, then smoke. Most of the time I never looked back at the clock and the craving completely passed in that 10 minutes. -note, don't set a timer, it will go off and even if you had forgotten about your craving then you just reminded yourself of it.

Welcome to the club, find your flavor, find your strength, drink your water, don't pressure yourself, and enlist your wife's support on the indoors thing. I won't even say you can do this, because you will do this.

One more thing, your tastes and sense of smell will change over the next week or three. Don't be surprised if your favorite vapor flavor becomes your least. Hell, one of our members is blown away by the taste of water now!

Thanks analog.

I will mention that whole "stop pooping" thing. That would be another plus to vaping!

I'm alone in the house right now vaping some chocolate. We'll see if she smells it when she gets home.

I think I'm going to get some 24mg and maybe 1 pack of 16mg. I definitely can't feel much if any TH on these 6mg.

Oh, and the chocolate seems to go really well with the Honey Brown lager I'm drinking!

Welcome mhoff226! So glad you have joined us.

I have heard people say they started using e-cigs just so they could vape in places where smoking wasn't allowed, and they had no intention of quitting smoking. But then ended up "quitting by accident". I thought that was a funny way of putting it. How many smokers would just love to "quit by accident"? So don't put pressure on yourself, and just let the process evolve naturally until you have your "accident". :)

About the smell. My husband also says it is a sweet smell that he likes. He's even gotten to the point where he can tell when I'm vaping certain flavors. "Honey, are you enjoying your Pina Colada vape?" Why yes, yes I am.....

Happy Vaping! :vapor:

I have Pina Colada e-cig juice from 2 different companies; lots of places have it. There is a juice vendor thread in this sub-forum that has lots of suggestions for juice that will have you ordering like crazy it you don't control yourself. :) http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/bloog-electronic-cigarette/174203-juice-vendors.html

analog made a good point though, your taste buds will go through a lot of changes, so you might want to hold off on ordering tons of one flavor until you are sure you won't end up not liking it in a couple of weeks.

If you are still having analogs as well as vaping she might be smelling the lingering aroma of analogs :smokie:
in your hair/skin/clothes and associating it with vaping :vapor:.

Try changing shirts, brushing your hair and teeth just before you "Get your Bloog on!" (I'm trademarking that one). That might be enough of a change to make a difference in her perception of vaping. By the way, I am not implying any of these things are ever neglected by you, merely suggesting an experiment.

Not wise to tick off a woman that might "watch" you while you sleep. Mentioning her "fragrances" could get your bunny boiled, or whatever happened to that guy in Fatal Attraction.

Hang in there! One day at a time =)

I think it is a mental thing, regarding the smell. Yes, some vapors have an odor that others can smell. Bella Valente comes to mind. But most are subtle and clean on the exhale.

It looks like smoke, so it must be a cigarette and cigarettes stink. I was walking down a sidewalk vaping yesterday in front of some shops and I was stopped by a pair of smokers who wanted to borrow my lighter. I had to explain that I had an e-cig and no longer carried a lighter. They were more than a little confused.

After being confused, did they show any interest? We need cards to hand out. I carry the riv4l cards when I travel just to have something to show the TSA, etc. if need be. Better than nothing.

I get mixed reactions regarding smell. Some can't smell anything, others smell something faint but not offensive. Drove with my non-smoking mother with windows rolled up, and she didn't notice anything. :)

I don't think there is any RY4 in stock -- there isn't on the website anyhow. I was waiting for that before getting a sampler so I could order all at once.
Good point about not vaping in front of the kids -- too young to understand. But the basement is still better than being sent outside.

Well, I can get away with it in the basement. I'll work on her, slowly.

I also have 2 boys under 10. I really don't want them to see me vaping and think it's cool.

I tried the RY4 yesterday. I really like it. Now I just need to get some 24mg cartos. I guess I'll wait for the big sale this week.

Still on analogs, for now.

I've been struggling with quitting, all the juices I've ordered have been 18mg, but i've been adding juice to the 24mg menthols, I made it 16 hours this past day, and it seems to be my bodies breaking point. I start getting nervous and anxious and immediately run to the store for smokes. So far today I've only had four, and I can honestly say even 24mg isn't quite enough because vapor doesn't absorb as quickly as if you were smoking an analog. Last night I chain vaped through 2 batteries on a mix of Irish Mintz/minthol 18mg from Top Vapor USA... After waking up today, I made it about 5 hours before I really started feeling the mental withdrawal. Hang in there. It's not an easy road heh

OK, I am NOT qualified to counsel anyone on parenting, but, did you hide your cigarette use the same way?

Because if they already know you smoked, I would think the more important lesson to teach them is that CIGS are not cool. Besides, I'd like to think that they'd be happy and proud that their old man is kicking the habit, and isn't THAT a positive example for them?

Again, I've never even had kids, so I'm not reccomending or even suggesting anything, they're your kids to raise. But I'd be very interested in your response to my thoughts.

As I've always said, it doesn't have to be about abstinence. Keep that as a goal, but don't beat yourself up or pressure yourself over it. The pressure to NOT smoke might just be adding to your stress and contributing to your desire TO smoke.

Like trying not to think about pink elephants. Try not thinking about them. Go on. You can't not think about them while trying not to think about them. Trying not to think about them makes you think about them. But if you aren't trying not to think about them, voila, you don't think about them.

here's what my 3 year old has to say about this:

- Dad, you can't smoke in the house.
- But daddy isn't smoking. This is not a cigarette.
- Yes it is. Look at the smoke.
- It's not smoke, just vapor, and look at the little light. Cigarettes don't have little lights.
- No they don't. How cute! Give me!

You just can't win. :/
