Vape shops nationwide raided - The Rakyat Post

I'm not from Malaysia but I've been following the news closely.

I'm sure many of you are confused because the Malaysian cabinet just decided not to ban vaping. Here's a short insight into the situation.

The Health Minister wanted to ban vaping. But after the cabinet rejected that, he used the Poisons Act, which included nicotine to start seizing juices. And the kicker? This raid came one day after Malaysia raised cigarette taxes by 40%.

So heavy handed. And to what end? Makes you long for actual journalists who would probe and provide answers that us politically aware vapers already know what's up.

Which is: loss of revenue and sense of control makes ANTZ types desperate, and cold. But being cold and ANTZ-like is not news.

So Malaysia the battleground at the moment. Better read up on them. Malaysia - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia . 30 million people. Pretty good economy. Parlimentary system. I bet if we looked into it we'd find their Health Ministry is heavily dependent on tobacco taxes so those guys are just protecting their turf.

My prediction is this action is going to backfire badly and have global repercussions for the debate over vaping. If I lived there I'd be determined to have a nic supply. Appearently cigarette smuggling is rampant already. India has got to be a major trading partner, it's about 2,000 miles away by sea. India also happens to be a principle processor of liquid nic.

This is quickly becoming the global norm. Tobacco is threatened and the governments are protecting their income. US, SG, Malaysia. Who else?

I'll start sending stuff, viva la resistance.

We need to find some video of a Malaysian Health Ministry swat team raiding a vape shop and taking away the contraband. That has to exist somewhere. The first person to find some and post it here gets a star for their cap.

Who controls the Health Ministry over there? Or to they get to make and enforce their own rules and their Cabinet has no authority? :(
The Cabinet decided not to ban vaping but the health ministry used the poisons act which made nicotine illegal to confiscate juices. It's a ....ty way to bypass what the cabinet said.

Can vapers in Malaysia buy 100mg nic mail order for DIY the same as in the US?
"Under the Poisons Act, nicotine is classified as a Category C poison, which means that both nicotine and products containing nicotine can only be dispensed by licensed personnel. However, nicotine in tobacco products, particularly cigarettes, is exempted."

It's basically no. It'll be an offence to own nicotine without permission. It's the same as Australia and Singapore.

that's interesting.

on one side of the world they attack vaping by attempting to 'deem' vape stuff as tobacco products
and on the other side of the world they attack vaping based on not being a tobacco product.

In Singapore, there's a blanket ban for any product "resembling tobacco products".

Are vapers in Singapore able to defeat the ban? Can they get the stuff they need? Do they need to vape in hiding?
Vape in hiding. From the news i've read, sellers in Singapore are fined up to $250000. The law goes that for every mod you bring across the border, it's a $5000 fine. But they usually go after the sellers. End users get theirs confiscated and traced to the seller. Singapore is definitely the worst country in the world for vapers.

I hate for any group of people to be victimized but maybe this situation in Malaysia and it's results will end up having a positive impact later on. I just watched a vid this morning where a public health advocate stated that we need statistics in regards to how many people will go back to smoking if vaping becomes banned. Well, here we go. Malaysia is going to provide that proof for public health and our governments. In the end the health ministry in Malaysia may be setting the stage for an end to vaping bans with it's vaping ban.
